Why is it so easy to steal?

I don't remember stating it was morally right I merely stated that it wasn't objectively wrong.

I would state that in this instance, it is objectively wrong.
I suppose there isn't that much of a need to make it difficult to steal, because some items are of so little value that most people wouldn't bother stealing it, and nobody would care even if you did steal it. Putting up tough security measures to stop people stealing Pick n Mix isn't really worth the hassle. And then for items of slightly higher value, most people still have morals.

Whereas I'd like to see anyone try stealing from the Apple shop :p:

There was a documentary about shop lifters on the other day from the points of view of the lifters and the security teams. I think the security staff only pounce on the lifters when they step out of the store even though they saw them stash something. So I imagine if there were many people doing this at once, and limited security staff, they would have to go after the ones who stole the most or who they could catch easiest?

I had friends who used to steal when I was younger. Went with them but never took anything my self. I was shocked too how blatant they were whilst still getting away with it....

Until they got caught, TWICE....

Banned from shops, escorted out of town, cautioned by police and taken home to their parents in police cars. I distanced myself from it and just enjoyed shopping/ spending time with my friends so I had no crimes to answer to.

What other people do is their business but I choose not to. Just dont like it when people who think its fine expect you to join in.

This does raise the question though about the blurry lines around stealing. Like if you realise theres something in your trolley you didnt pay for after you have left the store, would you go back and pay or go home? Then theres torrents too.

So what you're saying if you went to your best friends house and stole his phone and £1000 cash he had save up in his draw, you would find this an acceptable thing to do?

yes I wouldn't find it morally wrong. Whether I would do it, probably not, why not? Because if I did so it would be very likely that I would be a suspect and secondly because if my friend is sad he will probably be annoying.

I dont know, hence I asked

Yes I do not see murder as being morally wrong regardless of it being the murder of my mother or the murder of a sun flower.

Nice answer...

I was hoping you could convince me with rational statements instead you have to insult me.

To be fair I expected it.

PS; even if I was a psychopath my argument still stands, now that I think of it perhaps I am a psychopath?

But it seems you have convinced yourself that stealing from people or even the murder of your own mother is not morally wrong?

Does this not seem completely laughable to you considering the society we live in and have been brought up in. Where are you from?

And that's coming from me who has stolen from shops, people and cars in the past.

nothing of large value can be stolen easily, there aren't many security guards, however you might be caught on cctv so next time you come into the shop you get busted.

I do find it interesting that there is this moral premise that stealing is wrong, like all other moral values I believe it to be subjective, for example would you think stealing wrong if it were to be an act that would save many lives, what is it that makes stealing wrong? Is there some sort of mysterious property that you guys pick up using a morality scanner?

Nothing wrong with stealing from a chain-store. Something desperately wrong with stealing from an individual.

"Thou shall not steal if there is a direct victim."

What does it matter if you cause hurt to someone else?

I suppose because I would not like to be in the situation where I have been personall targetted and become a victim of stealing

That statement wouldn't count for me then. ^__^, I don't see empathy as a valid reason after all.

Empathy is part of human nature o.O

Just wondering, how many of you download music and watch films on your laptops without paying? Is this just as morally wrong as physically going in to a shop and stealing something?

I do neither by the way!

If i could download a few pairs of jeans i would.

And why should humans try to be human? More importantly there is no evidence for that statement.

This.

If you've ever downloaded anything (which 99.9% of people reading this will have), the only thing different from stealing out of shops is it's more likely you'll get caught.
