Ah I agree, there is a lot. But most of them can be learnt by just memorising one of the reactions, as the rest follow the same trend generally (As in displacement reactions, just remember the Cl2 one)

Try doing mind maps, I recently started doing them again and i'm finding them very useful.
As well as saying the notes I make outloud to myself, it just makes it stick in there. Even though I probably look crazy .
    Hi

    long time

Does anyone have the january 2012 paper?
in terms of polymerisation, do we only need to know about addition polymerisation?

Only point to be made about ISA's:
Based on last year's grade boundaries, 35/50 on the paper is an E. That equates to 24/60 UMS.

A lot of people in my Chemistry class last year got 30/50 and thought they were on C's and ended up with U's. Just a heads up.
thing you got to remember its always changing, one year it might be 30/50 for an A, isn't Isa's supposed to be harder than EMPA's?

    Not the ISA, sorry

It was 33/50 for an E in 2010. And then in 2009 it was 33/50 for an E.

I don't know if they're harder but teachers often cheat and give their students the answers to the paper, from what I've heard

in terms of difficulty, they'd be the same, but often teachers are able to 'help' their students more in terms of the ISA, but the EMPA is externally marked. However, I think it makes no difference, as teachers still see the EMPA papers before hand and choose the concentration and because the paper is given to the school in Jan and they have until May to do the empa so in theory they could still cheat; the only difference is, the empa is externally marked.

My teacher didn't cheat per se, she merely told us what categories to revise (Group 7 and 2); which really is only fair enough, as the abhorrent teachers that do literally just cheat, force AQA to make the grade boundaries impossibly high, so if we didn't get guided revision (call it what you will) we wouldn't be in with any sort of a fighting chance of a respectable grade. I didn't do too badly on the most recent paper though.

I say my notes out loud quite often, and thanks I've never really tried mind maps but I'll give it a go. Have you done organics yet? if so how are you finding it?

also. as you've done the isa, do you know where the extra 13 marks come from? I can count up to 38 in the markscheme but it apparently out of 50 on the ums converter online?

Up to 12 marks from PSA (I think it's called)...where you should do a few different practicals in class and get marked out of 2 on each or something.

This module has taken me ages to self-teach, pretty much close to finishing now.

P.S. The nelson thornes textbook is ****. Using the collins revision guide + notes + past paper should suffice (if you're reading this next year, don't bother making notes from the nelson thornes)

Just finished making notes ( and self teaching) That took longer than I expected. I'm going to have to go over all the Organic stuff again too. Have you all started doing past papers already?

    Hi

    long time

how are you finding C2 and are you doing stats or M1?
Finding C2 okay Still a few bits that i keep tripping up on but will sort them out soon.
& I can't decide - i'm leaning more towards doings mechanics but stats will be easier to get through
    How about you?

I'd definatley do stats! so much easier, its basically gcse plus a little extra 3 chapters. How do you find logs and trigonometric function equations?

    Alcohols, alkenes, and analytical techniques

Would you say they were difficult/long? I hope not. I want them to be done asap!

You'll be done in no time! Analytical techniques isn't hard at all!
The other two are just a bit of memorising and being able to apply and you're sorted

we've done alkenes and its basicay just structure of double bond + 1 more mechanism( Electrophilic Addition) which is quite easy to learn imo. On to Alcohols!!
