I've told mine and well there's no way around it honestly, trying to say it as softly as you can won't really make much difference as its just something you can't sneak around. I just took a deep breath and said it, spoke to my mum and step dad seperately when i first told them.

Just make sure that your parents aren't stressed at the time, and that you have somewhere to fall back to in case it goes south. Good luck.
