Applying after 15 January? Look in here **First**
You've got questions about applying for uni, we've got the answers. Step inside...

Re: Applying after 15 January? Look in here **First**
I've only just realised what I'd like to do at uni so I realise I would be a late applicant. I emailed the university that I want to go to, and they said it was "highly unlikely" that they would consider late applicants due to an "exceptional" number of applications already received. Is there any point even sending my application? If they reject me, I won't be applying to any other universities through Extra or Clearing, as there is only one university that I can go to without moving out again (moved back in with my parents to save some cash!).

Re: Applying after 15 January? Look in here **First**I wouldn't be so sure about that, myself. Just because a course was in Clearing last year doesn't mean it will be again this year. The uni you have in mind is unlikely to know for sure what the position will be in August.(Original post by not_a_cool_guy)
Im currently doing a first year course but i want to start a new course at a different institution for September.
I know that i'll be able to get onto the course, especially when clearing comes round . However, can I just start a UCAS form right now, send it to the uni or will i have to talk to my current university about this whole deal and just make it a bureaucratic mess?
Can i just, you know, talk to the uni i want to start with, tell them im sending them an application, drop out and have them accept me, and just start in September?
Sounds a bit too easy.
You will still have to complete a UCAS application, personal statement and reference included, whenever you do it. You will have to declare that you've attended the uni you are at now, and a reference from them would be expected.
So yes, it did sound a bit too easy. -

Re: Applying after 15 January? Look in here **First**Straight answer? No. It's not even as if they are likely to keep it 'on ice' in case the applicants they already have don't measure up - all that would happen is that you'd get an immediate rejection.(Original post by truthandtragedy)

I'm an international student that still wants to apply.
I've had some health issues and my grades at uni are a bit bad atm, but I'm seeking medical help and working with academic advisors soon to get back on track.
I don't really want my current marks to go into play on my application.
Will I use my highschool marks to apply as I did for the Canadian uni I am at now, or is it a MUST, absolute must that I have to report that I am currentl studying at this university?
Also, do I put in my grades in the A,B,C format, or give a percentage? I've only been out of highschool for like half a year, btw.
Thank you.

Re: Applying after 15 January? Look in here **First**You do have to declare that you are currently at university. Your high school marks are still relevant, and if you have been ill then that will be taken into account when considering the marks you have achieved at university so far.(Original post by Tyransaurana)

You enter your grades as they are published in your system, don't try and convert them into what you think might be the UK equivalents. -
Re: Applying after 15 January? Look in here **First**1. I have to declare I am currently at university, okay. Do i have to fill in my current marks like i did with my highschool marks? Or Is just filling the school portion in fine?(Original post by Minerva)

2. How will my being ill be taken into account? Where do I talk about/declare/discuss this?
3. Will I require a reference from my current uni?
4. It says I should list schools i've been to since i was 11. Do I have to put in my elementary and middle schools? And if so, I have no idea about my marks from so long ago.
5. As for the Highschool marks, I seem to have lost the report card we got in the mail this summer with my final grades on it. I'm trying to find out my final grades, but if I put the marks on the 2nd not 3rd report card, will that be a problem?
6. under the uni section in education, after 1 year of study, would I have recieved any qualifications that must be listed? I can't add modules unless I state I recieved a qualification.
I really want to get into uni in the UK
and I'm just kicking myself at the moment that I've kind of messed things up for myself. I'm just confused as to what my chances are, what UK schools look for the most, etc.
Thanks for answering my questions

Re: Applying after 15 January? Look in here **First**What UK schools look for varies according to the course and uni - so you will have to research this yourself.(Original post by Tyransaurana)
1. I have to declare I am currently at university, okay. Do i have to fill in my current marks like i did with my highschool marks? Or Is just filling the school portion in fine? You would normally only declare end-of-year marks, not individual assessment scores, but this depends on the structure of your course.
2. How will my being ill be taken into account? Where do I talk about/declare/discuss this? You can mention it in your personal statement, and your referee should certainly refer to it.
3. Will I require a reference from my current uni? Yes.
4. It says I should list schools i've been to since i was 11. Do I have to put in my elementary and middle schools? And if so, I have no idea about my marks from so long ago. If you attended those schools after the age of 11, yes. You don't enter marks or grades unless these were awarded as part of a formal certificate/qualfication of some kind.
5. As for the Highschool marks, I seem to have lost the report card we got in the mail this summer with my final grades on it. I'm trying to find out my final grades, but if I put the marks on the 2nd not 3rd report card, will that be a problem? You need the final grades, and you should have some kind of formal notification to prove these.
6. under the uni section in education, after 1 year of study, would I have recieved any qualifications that must be listed? I can't add modules unless I state I recieved a qualification. You enter the details of the course you are currently attending and its expected dates, not the dates you actually intend to be there. This allows you to enter the individual module grades etc as above.

Re: Applying after 15 January? Look in here **First**sorry for the million questions, this is all confusing to me :P(Original post by Minerva)
What UK schools look for varies according to the course and uni - so you will have to research this yourself.
but as for giving formal notification of my highschool grades, how on earth do i do that? Should I call my school? I don't understand.
also, it wont let me fill in the complete duration of my Uni degree

Re: Applying after 15 January? Look in here **First**I only properly understand the UK system, but presumably at the point you graduated from High School you got some sort of formal confirmation of the final grades you achieved - those are what you need to enter on your application.(Original post by Tyransaurana)

When you enter the details of the university in the Education section, the system should ask you for a start date and a finish date. It doesn't usually prevent you from putting a date in the future for the finish date. -
applying after ucas deadline
i have been looking at course details on salford universities website again today and have seen another course that i would like to apply for. what are the chances of them even considering an application at this point though? could i find out if there are still any places left on the course, could i ring them/email them? could i contact ucas? really worried, as if i don't get in on the course i have applied for i'll be stuck. i have applied for a journalism course, still my ideal course, but am now regretting not applying for a creative writing course and an i.c.t course as well as back up's. if i do end up in clearing, do i have any choice for the course that ucas find me or is it a case of you get what you're given?
-
Re: applying after ucas deadline
I believe there are 3 separate deadlines in some cases. The first is the general. The second makes you less likely to be accepted, the third even less likely.
I think this depends on the university...But then again you have to do it through UCAS.
Try contacting them. -
Re: applying after ucas deadlinei will ring them first thing monday morning. and about clearing, is it a case of whatever you can get or can you choose?(Original post by Newky)

Re: applying after ucas deadline
also, i know it's impossible to judge, but what are my chances of being accepted onto an I.C.T or creative writing course if i apply after the deadline? does it depend on how subscribed the course is? will the rise in tuition fee's mean the demand is less? so many questions i know, but i'm really worried at the minute.
-
Re: applying after ucas deadlineIf you have already applied to Salford and want to change the course you have applied for, you can ring them and ask if you could be considered for the new course and ask if they will require a new ps for the new course. They may or may not allow this, but some universities are agreeable. If you have spare slots on your UCAS form you could add extra courses if you wish, but at this point they don't have to be considered equally. If you have no spare spaces, you can't change the other courses at this point.(Original post by ralph99)

In Clearing, UCAS doesn't 'find you' courses and 'give' them to you. You have to find the courses from those in Clearing and apply for them yourself. There is no question of you getting any course you don't actively apply for, so you won't end up where you don't want to go. -

Your first Q - depends on the university.
Rise in fees will mean demand is less yes. I experienced this to my benefit first hand.
Think about your options and what you will say to UCAS when you contact them. They will answer your questions. If you can't do uni this year, there's always next, or work. -
Re: applying after ucas deadline
i'm already taking a 'gap year' so there's no way i can afford to waste another twelve months, that's why i'm panicking so much. i will ring both ucas and salford university on monday and ask about availability for an i.c.t course that i am interested in. am i right in thinking that if there are vacancies on a course even though my application would be after the agreed deadline they would consider it, in order to fill up the course?
