Re: Psychology AQA A PSYA4 18th June 2012!therapies i'm guessing.- might split up into bio and psych therapies I reckon....(Original post by fzzz)

Re: Psychology AQA A PSYA4 18th June 2012!What do you mean by that?(Original post by unbeatablemoody)
My favourite way to remember the Stats tests is through this method. WAR, MOI, CIN, SOC.
W- Wilcoxon
O- Ordinal <
R- Related Measures
M- Mann-Whitney U
O- Ordinal <
I- Independent
C- Chi Squared
I - Independent >
N - Nominal
S- Spearman's Rank
O - Order More Important >
C - Correlation
And the good this is, the top 2 are < and the bottom two are >. So essentially, left right, which is easy to remember. This is what my class likes to do anyways, a bit easier than the other methods I've seen!

Re: Psychology AQA A PSYA4 18th June 2012!Diagnosis and classification came up in Jan 2012(Original post by HalleStar)
That's what I'm doing because I think it will come up, it hasn't come up in a while. I'm gambling definitely

Re: Psychology AQA A PSYA4 18th June 2012!we don't need to know Kuhn and Popper but we need to know peer review (:(Original post by UWS)
Do we have to know these for Research methods?
1. Kuhn and Popper
2. Peer review -
Oh I see, I don't think that issues surrounding the classification or diagnosis of schiz will come up coz it came up in January so forget about that. Most likely is therapies so that should help to minimise(Original post by chickenlegs)
I just started revision and need to like minimise it..............

Re: Psychology AQA A PSYA4 18th June 2012!why would you even revise diagnosis when it has just come up?(Original post by chickenlegs)
is it too risky to just revise therapies and diagnosis/classification for schizo
revise explanations + therapies!
im ignoring the diagnosis and clasification part -
Re: Psychology AQA A PSYA4 18th June 2012!I really hope not!(Original post by Rose957)

Re: Psychology AQA A PSYA4 18th June 2012!For the Hovland-Yale model, what can I include? Because a phone is a lot harder to talk about than your example question of perfume, because it has to attractive to a larger target market of both males and females... so I can't mention someone who is similair to the target market... I guess I could use attractive people/celebs... but I don't think I've ever seen a mobile advert with a celebrity on....(Original post by HolyFuzazzle)
Outline and Evaluate 2 Psychological therapies of schizophrenia
Discuss social explanations of the attraction of celebrity (6+10)
Outline what research has told us about some of the negative and positive effects of video games (4?)
Outline the Hovland-Yale model of persuasion. Explain how a phone company might use this information to make a campaign more successful.(4+10)
You're better than me, I can never be bothered with doing past questions, unless they're research methods ones. -
Re: Psychology AQA A PSYA4 18th June 2012!hahaha arghhh I think we have the same gist, I know I'm trying to do the same thing(Original post by Hannah578)
Yours all seems right too me,
I've got :-
Biological Interventions
Smoking - Nicotine Replacement Therapy
Involves releasing nicotine into the bloodstream in order to relieve the withdrawal symptoms from smoking. Desensitises nicotine receptors in brain so if a person does smoke, it is less satisfying. Releases nicotine into blood more slowly than cigarettes meaning NRT is less satisfying, encouraging relapse. Nicotine causes cigarette addiction but cigarettes contain other harmful substances – NRT prevents the person from ingesting these harmful substances. Therefore it is logical to reduce nicotine to eliminate consumption of harmful substances.
However nicotine itself does have harmful effects, e.g.:
- Increases heart rate and blood pressure, leading to heart disease
- Aggravates diabetes
- Increases tumour growth
- Affects development of foetuses
Gambling
Serotonin Drugs
SSRIs AO1
Evidence of serotonin dysfunction/fluctuation in pathological gamblers (George and Murali, 2005). SSRIs regulate serotonin levels, which could reduce the urge to partake in addictive behaviours.
Hollander et al (2000) found that gamblers treated with SSRIs to increase serotonin levels showed significant improvement compared to a control group.
Dopamine Drugs
Neltrexone - Inhibits the release of dopamine that results from gambling. Supported by research by Kim and Grant (2001) who found a decrease in gambling thoughts and behaviour after 6 weeks. Research with 10 participants over 16 weeks showed neltrexone reduced urge to gamble (Hollander et al, 2000). However these studies only looked at short term effectiveness – limited research into the long term effectiveness of the drug.
Which is kind of the same, but not really the same as yours?! so who knows?! Ahhh I actually hate this, learning addiction in a day is not going well haha xx
so bad at revising though I'm just reading these posts about people panicking instead?! haha ooops xxx
