For research methods, do we need to know about:
    - alternatives to the scientific approach e.g. criticisms, new paradigm research

    -role of paradigms

    -falsifiability

30 Raw Marks = 40 USM according to June 2011 (one of the harsher UMS conversions and grade boundaries)

And the paper is out of 85 35 for Research Methods, 24 for the other two sections

I think it depends- our teacher hasn't taught it to us, nor did she ever mention whether we need to know it or not (and she's a very good teacher, so it isn't as if she has just neglected the subject). However, I've still looked over it a couple of times in my revision booklet, just in case, mainly because it hasn't yet appeared on an exam paper.

    Hope this helps

Ok thanks. It's quite frustrating because I know some parts have been taken out but it's not that specific which bits! Best to be on the safe side I guess

That sounds like a serious plan! Mines not going too badly thanks, just plodding through it and trying to make sense of it all I'm just praying RM isn't too tricky cause I haven't looked over that much :/
Research methods is a bit funny I found but then again im not too bright

I have some really good notes for it if you want and some practice booklets that have helped me.

At first they were = but as you do them over and over comparing to the mark scheme you begin to ace it!

WHAT YOU JUST DESCRIBED IS NOT RANDOM SAMPLING. Thats Volunteer Sampling as you are asking potential people to volunteer.
    Yeah sorry :/ My bad

Hi, sorry i'm not wanting to correct you but I just want to help, that sampling you described is volunteer sampling as you're putting ads out in papers and things for people to come forward and volunteer to take part in the study.

Random sampling can be done by giving everyone in a target population a number (from 1-however many is in the population) and then using a computerised random number generator to pick numbers and so 'randomly' select your sample from the target population
I know I made a mistake someone else just told me too sorry was doing a question on random sampling at the time so just got confused Sorry

Stop worrying Saj! You only have this one exam are you're going to ace it. Most people on here have 3 or more exams.
I know! I think its just anxiety building up with it finally being over...

Good luck with your other exams Dec

Reductionist - Assumes all schizophrenics have schizophrenogenic families, when this is not the case.

    Psychodynamic -
Lack of falsifiability - Cannot be proved wrong/right. Lacks scientific evidence as we cannot test it scientifically, thus it lacks scientific validity.

alsoo if the psychodynamic theory was correct, then we'd assume that the therapy is correct. however, as the therapy compared to antipsychotics is worse, we can assume that the theory is incorrect

Is there a proper term for a treatment that reduces symptoms NOT the actual disorder/illness?
