Is it possible to get a question JUST on the psychodynamic approach for schizophrenia?
And also for the "Discuss the psychological explanations for schizophrenia?" 24 marks question, is it okay to just talk about 2 approaches, e.g. socio-cultural and behaviourist, or do we HAVE to talk about all 4?
What have you guys been told?

"The symptoms of schizophrenia are divided into positive symptoms, where the person whos behaviours that a normal person would not have, and negative sympyoms, which are an absence of behaviours that a normal person should have. A person diagnosed with schizophrenia is likley to experience delusions and hallucinations. The most common hallucinations are auditory hallucinations, where the person with schizophrenia may hear voices, even though there is nobody actually there. Delusions involve the individual losing control of their thoughts. For example, they may have paranoid delusions, where they believe that they are being followed or spied upon by others. Negative symptoms can result in the individual appearing apathetic and without emotion (flatness or affect). They may show anhedonia, an inability to respond to pleasurable experiences. In order to be diagnosed with schizophrenia, the individual must be experiencing at least two of the more important positive symptoms (delusions and hallucinations) for over a month."

For cognitive explanations of initiation of gambling, is anyone using Griffith's Heuristics?

I'm using them for gambling maintenance but I would rather use them too for initiation rather thant he self med theory which is what I have put down, but I'm not sure if the heuristics explanation really applies to initiation because I think the heuristics are meant to develop after addiction has been initiated, and that's what maintains addiction.

No im pretty sure you cant! On the spec, all it says we need to know are 'psychological explanations for SZ' and so doesnt say anything in particular, therefore cant ask us on specific things (unless on the spec it says 'including' which is good in my opinion! And for that question, i'm only going to talk about psychodynamic, interpersonal communication and CBT, maybe not even all of those 3! So no, dont need all 4 hope this helps!

Possibly here is what came up in jan
    Topic: Media Psychology
0 6 Outline the Elaboration Likelihood model of persuasion. Explain how a mobile phone
company might use knowledge of this model in a campaign to market a new phone.
    (4 marks + 6 marks)

0 7 Researchers conducted a study of media influences on anti-social behaviour. The
researchers asked child participants to name their favourite TV programmes. Fifteen
years later, the researchers assessed the same participants for levels of anti-social
behaviour. Two measures of adult anti-social behaviour were obtained for each
    participant.
Measure A: The researchers interviewed a person who knew the participant well and
asked them about the participant’s behaviour.
Measure B: The researchers studied official records of the participant’s criminal
    convictions.
The researchers concluded that there was a link between watching violent TV
programmes as a child and levels of adult aggression.

Other than ethical issues, explain two methodological problems involved in the study
    described above. (4 marks)

0 8 Outline and evaluate research into celebrity stalking. (4 marks + 6 marks)
    Hope this helps

If anyone want me to post the whole Jan 2012 PSYA4 Paper let me know

Yeah my ideas came after looking through the past papers to see what has come up and everything apart from cognitive dissonance seems to have. Also decision making models nearly everytime. Is anyone else doing OCD? i seem to be the only one.

You do not need to be able to do the tests, you do however, need to be able to interpret the results; so they might give you the x value from a chi-square and ask you to find the critical value from a provided table and interpret the results. You need to know when to use the tests and whether they are correlation and things like that.
That's what I've been taught anyway
ahhh, thanks for the reply! i was hoping it would be that, as i kinda know how to do those... ill just keep doing what im doing then

Ah I'm glad haha. How are you finding it? I think an issue surrounding the classification of diagnosis question is likely to come up and also perhaps biological therapies. Completely guesswork looking at past papers though.

Classification and diagnosis are a good possibility. Therapies not so sure Jan 2012 -Outline and evaluate two or more therapies for obsessive compulsive disorder.
    (8 marks + 16 marks)

Left it nice and open so yes they could ask us about specified therapies this time but you never know with AQA ¬¬.

Not started Schizophrenia yet... Do you guys reckon I can do it in 2 days?

And what are the chances of classification and diagnosis appearing in the exam?

I managed to write notes for schizo in 2 days but not remember them off by heart, but i'm quite slow and wasnt really trying to remember- so you will probably be able to lol.
And i think theres a big chance it wont come up, they wouldnt put it in the paper again and it cant be asked as a short answer question- so they cant put it in with something else either
