    Petition: Nuclear Power
    Nuclear Power Petition
This petition calls for 2 things:

    (a) To investigate whether the claims stated here are true, and if so, what should be done to stop this from being completed.
    (b) To complete halt the use of Nuclear Power in the United Kingdom due to the immense safety implications of using it.

stated where? There aren't any claims in your post other than the "immense safety implications" which are stated as if they are facts not something that needs to be investigated. Anyway I doubt I'll be signing as generally I agree with nuclear power in this country but I will read it to see what the claims are and if it means I should perhaps change my mind.

I won't support this. What do you suggest we replace our current stations with, if not new nuclear? It's not the final solution, but renewables are surely a longer term measure, and come with their own disadvantages anyway. We cannot afford to go with coal/gas if we want to have any hope of meeting our CO2 targets.

We don't invest in Renewables enough Sandys. What we need to do is not build new Nuclear Power Stations. Maintain the ones we have to the end of their working lives and get rid of them. By then we should have gotten Renewable Energy Sources to the point of replacing Nuclear.

If we invest in Renewables then we begin the long road to getting rid of Nuclear.

I'm against this. Nuclear power is a necessity in the future in order to reduce fossil fuel consumption. Nuclear isn't renewable, but there's enough left to supply us for a long, long time and this time can be used to try and develop more effective renewable sources.

No, this isn't sensible now. We do not have the renewable infrastructure to immediately replace nuclear, and we can hardly use more fossil fuels. I am, however, all for the prevention of building new nuclear plants and instead funding the research and contruction of renewable facilities.

No one's saying we shouldn't invest in renewables, but at the current state of technology there is no way they're in any shape to be the primary focus of our energy sources, not least over nuclear.

If we halt nuclear power now, we could face an energy crisis. We should be start looking at renewable energy now. I am talking about a gap between the end of nuclear power and introduction of renewable energy.

    Re: Petition: Nuclear Power
You want to stop the use of nuclear power? do you even realize the cost that it will bring to the consumer, the costs that during this economic time will be incredibly hard to fathom.

This is a stupid petition over a frivolous issue.

What a load of nonsense. Nuclear power is one of the safest there is.

Completely the wrong time for such a bill, furthermore I feel that nuclear power is going to play a big part in the future of the planet.

    Re: Petition: Nuclear Power
under no circumstances should we halt the use of nuclear power. Better regulation perhaps, but halting it would be insane.

This is not a bill. The idea behind it was to stimulate debate, and to not turn into a negative rep best for me

Stimulate debate on what? you want to halt nuclear power use due to immense safety implications when you link to an article that talks of subsidizing... get your petition straight and then we can talk.

    Re: Petition: Nuclear Power
I certainly do not agree with getting rid of nuclear power, I think we should be greatly increasing our nuclear power plants due to it being a much cleaner form of energy than fossil fuels.

I'm not supportive of reducing Nuclear power for ideas that seem bit over the top. When it comes to Nuclear, the one thing I would support is a move to Thorium rather than Uranium...

    Re: Petition: Nuclear Power
i cannot support such a motion ... nuclear power has prooved to be a reliable and safe source of power ... true there are dangers of it but they dont run the risk of destorying the world with green house gasses like a coal power plant and are more economic than wind power and other renewables which arent reliable enough yet.

If anything we should increase our nuclear power capabilities. It's one of the most efficient and safe sources available.
