Re: Petition: Nuclear Powerstated where? There aren't any claims in your post other than the "immense safety implications" which are stated as if they are facts not something that needs to be investigated. Anyway I doubt I'll be signing as generally I agree with nuclear power in this country but I will read it to see what the claims are and if it means I should perhaps change my mind.(Original post by Afcwimbledon2)

Its been put up now. -
Re: Petition: Nuclear Power
I won't support this. What do you suggest we replace our current stations with, if not new nuclear? It's not the final solution, but renewables are surely a longer term measure, and come with their own disadvantages anyway. We cannot afford to go with coal/gas if we want to have any hope of meeting our CO2 targets.

Re: Petition: Nuclear PowerWe don't invest in Renewables enough Sandys. What we need to do is not build new Nuclear Power Stations. Maintain the ones we have to the end of their working lives and get rid of them. By then we should have gotten Renewable Energy Sources to the point of replacing Nuclear.(Original post by sandys1000)

If we invest in Renewables then we begin the long road to getting rid of Nuclear. -
Re: Petition: Nuclear Power
No, this isn't sensible now. We do not have the renewable infrastructure to immediately replace nuclear, and we can hardly use more fossil fuels. I am, however, all for the prevention of building new nuclear plants and instead funding the research and contruction of renewable facilities.

Re: Petition: Nuclear PowerNo one's saying we shouldn't invest in renewables, but at the current state of technology there is no way they're in any shape to be the primary focus of our energy sources, not least over nuclear.(Original post by Afcwimbledon2)

Re: Petition: Nuclear Power
If we halt nuclear power now, we could face an energy crisis. We should be start looking at renewable energy now. I am talking about a gap between the end of nuclear power and introduction of renewable energy.

Re: Petition: Nuclear PowerStimulate debate on what? you want to halt nuclear power use due to immense safety implications when you link to an article that talks of subsidizing... get your petition straight and then we can talk.(Original post by Afcwimbledon2)
This is not a bill. The idea behind it was to stimulate debate, and to not turn into a negative rep best for me -
Re: Petition: Nuclear Power
i cannot support such a motion ... nuclear power has prooved to be a reliable and safe source of power ... true there are dangers of it but they dont run the risk of destorying the world with green house gasses like a coal power plant and are more economic than wind power and other renewables which arent reliable enough yet.
