Re: Cambridge MPhil Real Estate Financelol im sure your mates wont burn your letter...so i guess it is all thru electronic channel...(Original post by shibuyagyoza)
I put first choice Darwin coz I really wanna meet a lot of people from different backgrounds, and just randomly chose Caius as second coz it just sounded nice lol. I got into Darwin like 2 days after I got my offer - not sure if that means they're a bit despo? Idk... But from what I've gathered it's the best for socializing!
Not to mention it's right next to the Land Econ Department - and I have issues with distance and lectures. Food is okay, I'll go the distance, but lectures......
As for the letter, unless my flatmates burned it, nope didn't get one. I think you just accept online and send your transcripts right? Then you're supposed to get a letter of confirmation? That's how I'd have assumed it went.
previously, when you emailed the sec about your app, did you email the BoGS sec or the land econ dept sec?
thanks -
Re: Cambridge MPhil Real Estate Financejust a follow up, i emailed the dept sec and the person said they returned my app to the Board, and said that the Board and the dept are two different depts with different locations and I should ask the Board for more info regarding whats next and time frame. Unlike the reply that you got back with the offer. does that mean there might be a problem with my app? (even though i am in the awaiting BoGS stage)(Original post by shibuyagyoza)

Re: Cambridge MPhil Real Estate Finance
Hmmm strange... I emailed the dept sec (Glynis Norwood) and she basically told me everything I needed to know - I was only asking what did it all mean that I was sent to BOGS, playing dumb as usual, and she just told me what I told you before, even that it would take 3-4 weeks to process (it took less than that for me).
Idk are you an international student? Maybe processing internationals is more time consuming? Sorry can't offer more info myself on this.

Re: Cambridge MPhil Real Estate Financei emailed the same person, but i just asked what is the next step in the process/ timeframe, and she just told me to talk to BoGS, she said sometimes it takes 4 weeks or even more.(Original post by shibuyagyoza)

but i think to myself, if its taking this long, how am i going to have time to apply for visa?! its starting in late september. (im int'l student) -
Re: Cambridge MPhil Real Estate FinanceThis is what I am wondering. If it takes 3-4 weeks with BoGS, then another couple of weeks with college... and all the while you can not even start on your visa application! I suppose there is still time but it is getting awfully close.(Original post by vet4snak)

Re: Cambridge MPhil Real Estate FinanceContact BoGS and explain that you need to apply for a visa. Other threads here have suggested that they will speed up the process when it's this late in the year so you can get your CAS and start the visa application process.(Original post by vet4snak)

vet4snak you just got a load of excellent advice there you lucky creature!
By the end of the month we should probably set up a FB group for those that have been confirmed - I'm guessing the majority will know for sure if they're ending up at Cambridge by then... Yikesies!Last edited by shibuyagyoza; 12-06-2012 at 04:26. -
Re: Cambridge MPhil Real Estate FinanceThank you very much for your information, i have tried to search related threads about speeding up the process because of visa applications but i cant find it. as for the tone of my conversation, should i act dumb ? because if i ask them to speed things up, wouldn't that be rude to imply that i have already got the "offer"?(Original post by sj27)
Contact BoGS and explain that you need to apply for a visa. Other threads here have suggested that they will speed up the process when it's this late in the year so you can get your CAS and start the visa application process.
thanks for your input
thanks shibuyagyoza, i am very lucky indeed to stumble upon this wonderful forum(Original post by shibuyagyoza)

Re: Cambridge MPhil Real Estate FinanceIIRC it was discussed in the Cambridge postgrad applicants thread for 2011 admission (in the general postgrad forum). Don't demand, ask(Original post by vet4snak)

. I would drop them a mail or preferably call them, just say something like you are international and worried about the time it will take to get your visa, so if at all possible you would appreciate being able to find out the outcome of your application as soon as possible. Good luck!

Re: Cambridge MPhil Real Estate Finance
To X,
My name is blah blah, ... I have recently been recommended to the BoGS and have been told it would take a further 3-4 weeks until a formal decision is made. However, I do have certain concerns about the time it will require to process my visa should I be offered a place to read the MPhil REF at Cambridge.
Could you be so kind as to offer me any advice on my current debacle?
I deeply thank you for your time and patience etc...
Should be a good guideline to what you could ask the BoGS sec - humble and apologetic always, and fairly clueless, always gets a informative reply in my experience. Hope that helps! Like sj27 said though, if the reply you get isn't as helpful as you might want, try another email or a call would be a better option.Last edited by shibuyagyoza; 12-06-2012 at 05:33. -

thanks sj27, i will call them later on
shibuya, thank you so much mate for your letter, i think i will give them a call, hopefully this will get a more direct response. i tried to email the BoGS general email but no response (i cant log in the raven system to find the BoGS secretary)(Original post by shibuyagyoza)

Re: Cambridge MPhil Real Estate Finance
Ok, forgive me for not having time to do a very detailed search but you'll see from some of the posts on this page the experience that people have had with BoGS speeding it up (you'll also see this upsets some others....but the point is a couple of posters clearly state that BoGS have helped them in this circumstance.) If this link takes you to where I think it will you may need to scroll up the page as well.

thanks!! -

long ago. I seem to recall I heard back from the trusts around June, but I had an offer by Feb of that year so not sure if that made a difference. (no money from trusts which was my last hope so no Cam as a result btw
). I seem to recall others have said the trusts announce around or by end-June this year. Maybe check the website and don't call until after whatever date they cite.
