ICAEW-ACA exam re-count
I have recently just got my results for the 2 application papers I sat in December 2011.
Unfortunately I failed the business strategy paper by 1 mark (I got 54 and the pass mark was 55). On a more positive note I passed the financial management with 64!.
My employer and I are now thinking of asking for a re-count due to the fact that I am only 1 mark, maybe even half a mark of passing.
My question is, has any succeeded with a recount with the ICAEW (i.e their mark was increased?).
Many thanks
Chris -
Re: ICAEW-ACA exam re-count
Extremely rare - they dont like to admit a mistake.
I think the whole process is just more money spinning from the ICAEW.
Out of the hundreds of re-counts they receive they probably change one so that word gets out that it is possible.
Nevertheless you may be that one. Definately do it if your feeling lucky (and your employer pays for it). -
Re: ICAEW-ACA exam re-countWhen I was at Kaplan I remember the tutors remarking that when people were very close to the pass mark they often tried very hard to find that extra mark to pass you, so your paper has probably alredy been reviewed a few times.(Original post by chrisblackband)

But what have you got to lose?!??! Even if it goes down it doesn't really matter, so I would ask for a remark and if it works, great, if it doesn't you are not in any worse of a position than you are in now!
BS by name, BS by nature, hated that paper. Congrats on FM. -
Re: ICAEW-ACA exam re-count
I know of a lad who got 54 (FR I think) and moved them up 1 mark a few years back. As the someone else said, pure money scam from an institute that's stuck in the dark ages. Also that lad was right, ICAEW probably change the odd paper to keep the cash scam alive. Still find it strange why Case always has the highest failure rate, wonder if it's something to do with the paper being the most expensive?
Have they checked your paper 3 times? Twice maybe. You have your clear fails, then I guess they look at the borderline candidates and decide which ones are going to be dumped in the fail pile.
For £25 quid worth a punt, agree to get it paid via expenses and you're laughing. Good luck, but it's not the end of the world if you re-do it. Though I thought FR was the hardest professional paper, save your luck for the brutality that awaits you on BC, or on some sittings when they make you do a foreign consol - BR. -
Re: ICAEW-ACA exam re-count
Looking at this post i am slightly scared hope I will cope with the ACA exams.
Just a quick question if you do Audit or Tax in one of the big 4 do they both do an ACA qualification? I know Audit definitely do ACA qualification but not sure with taxLast edited by Londonpie72; 28-01-2012 at 20:07. -
Re: ICAEW-ACA exam re-count
LP72, you'll be fine. It's not easy but doable. If you're a lastminute.com person like me then you'll put yourself under some intense pressure on that final weekend before exams. But if you're a revision queen you're sorted.
These exams are straightforward if you have the time. But very hard due to lack of time given in the exam, and having to get home at 7pm and then hit the books. Revision time is where it'll click, as you do more question practice you'll get more confident.
If you have an ACA contract you can do it. Think standard Big 4 Audit is ACA, and tax ATT/CTA or ACA/CTA. -
Re: ICAEW-ACA exam re-countAs you only need one more mark to keep your job, I would also send a covering letter to the ICAEW explaining your circumstances. Something along the lines of "I understand my mark is unlikely to increase to a pass, however..."(Original post by Gingerbiscuit)
How did you get on with your remark?
I hard failed a professional exam (44) and so am applying for a remark - need it to go up to 45 or else I have been told I am out! Hope I have more chance than going from a 54 to a 55!!
I know someone who did this and it worked. -
Re: ICAEW-ACA exam re-countWow! Where is this?(Original post by Gingerbiscuit)

Re: ICAEW-ACA exam re-countI know they do at PWC as well as Deloitte.(Original post by Regent)
Harsh. KPMG to?
45-55 = soft fail - you get one retake at your own expense
under 45 = hard fail - you're out, pack up your desk
Or at least that's what current graduate employees were saying at assessment days. Doesn't sound like there's any flexibility, but fingers crossed for the OP because that is painfully close! -

KPMG Tax policy is two sittings. -
