Does anyone else find it almost a joy to have little sympathy for others? When watching this Tv show called Bouncers yesterday, there was this one guy who was working the doors who summed it up very well.

"Round here, it's all about who can shag the most birds, who has the flashiest clothes and that you're 'hard'. I have very little faith in the human race. I mean I can abide going out for a few drinks and having a laugh, but these lot are just.... inbred. Actual mongrels."

    Or something along those lines.

Yes, I do. I don't like them, don't want to like them, and find it hilarious to laugh at the complete and utter twits whilst insulting them in ways they cannot comprehend. :holmes:

To clarify, we are talking about inconsiderate ********s. I don't enjoy insulting nice people, even in amusing ways

    Hello and welcome!
I always score rubbish on empathy tests too, I got 17 on the EQ one and the one on the BBC website I got 0, fail :teehee:
    Thanks for the welcome!

There's one on the BBC website? Must go and find it now!

What symptoms do you have? Obviosuly no one here will be able to diagnose you online, but as a girl with AS I may be able to relate. Some people have 'traits' of autism and asperger's without having the actual full condition, if you don't have it you could be like that.
Here is an incomplete list of the main things:

    - I can engage in tasks for hours on end. I pretty much read the 5th Harry Potter book in one go, only stopping for food and other necessary breaks.
    - I am hypersensitive to touch and in some cirumstance also to sound and smell. I can't touch certain fabrics, for example.
    - I am very clumsy and uncoordinated. When I was young doctors thought I might have a motoric dysfunction because I always fell down.
    - I suck at verbal instructions.
    - I shut down in social situations. I will sit with my friends, but half the time I just space out.
    - I lack empathy unless it concerns an animal. I can't count the number of times I had to fake concern or sadness because something terrible happened.
    - Apparently I'm impolite when I think I'm not.
    - I can make eye contact, but it usually ends up in staring.
    - I often interrupt others because I don't really know when I can jump into a conversation.
    - Even "read between the lines" confuses me.
    - I need a long regeneration period after socialising.
    - I obsess about something and then randomly just drop it. Except for some aspects of biology and How I Met Your Mother. These things have stuck so far. In my spare time that's all I ever do: read about bacteria and viruses and prions and watch HIMYM. I study Biology, so I guess I decided for the right degree.
    - I also do things the same way over and over. I don't care if your (generalised you) way is 'better' or 'shorter'.
    - Processing information in a group of people? Not happening.
    - I eat the same things over and over. I have eaten the same brand of cereals for about 4 years every day almost without fail. When I didn't have that for breakfast, I wasn't very happy about it.
    - I have a strong interest and science.
    - I don't vary between clothes that much (worn the same hoodie since last Friday now).
    - I hate doing 'girly' things. No shopping with others. I don't even understand the concept of 'sleepovers' What's the point in those? I even avoid grocery shopping for as long as I can.
    - I'm usually the last to get jokes unless they are very obvious.

I can think of more, but I don't want to make this list too long.

What if my brain does look 'normal' and there's nothing wrong with it? What is the explanation for the way I am then?
It might just be a personality thing.

I already talked to my GP about it and he said he'll refer me to a specialist. Although I probably should have written down what he told me because I am **** at verbal instructions...
    Has this been followed up?

It's part of the brain sex quiz, I did it, have a male brain apparently. Can't say I'm surprised.

Here is an incomplete list of the main things:

    - I can engage in tasks for hours on end. I pretty much read the 5th Harry Potter book in one go, only stopping for food and other necessary breaks. I do this, especially with books, if it's a book I enjoy I can sit there for hours
    - I am hypersensitive to touch and in some cirumstance also to sound and smell. I can't touch certain fabrics, for example.SOMEONE ELSE. Everyone thinks I'm really weird for this haha, but if I touch certain things I shudder and feel all horrible. It's textures for me, applies to food as well for me.
    - I am very clumsy and uncoordinated. When I was young doctors thought I might have a motoric dysfunction because I always fell down. I've broken over 12 bones just by falling in the house, my coordination is terrible. I'm always falling into things, I spent half my childhood in the local A&E
    - I suck at verbal instructions. So do I, they just don't register for some reason, or alternatively I get really confused.
    - I shut down in social situations. I will sit with my friends, but half the time I just space out.
    - I lack empathy unless it concerns an animal. I can't count the number of times I had to fake concern or sadness because something terrible happened.
    - Apparently I'm impolite when I think I'm not. I'm often accused of being too blunt and appearing harsh when I don't think I am at all, I'm just honest.
    - I can make eye contact, but it usually ends up in staring.
    - I often interrupt others because I don't really know when I can jump into a conversation. I do this but not too much, for me it's worse when I'm on the phone. I hate phones.
    - Even "read between the lines" confuses me. Me too, if you want me to pick up on something, tell me. If you don't tell me, your problem in my opinion.
This can happen to me, not all the time but if I'm feeling stressed or particularly upset, it happens
    - I eat the same things over and over. I have eaten the same brand of cereals for about 4 years every day almost without fail. When I didn't have that for breakfast, I wasn't very happy about it. Exactly like me. I don't like trying new foods and I'm very sensitive to food texture, so I stick to a really limited number of foods.
Neither do I, I'm pretty ungirly. I wear makeup and stuff, but I prefer to shop alone, shopping with friends is stupid imo, you get dragged into shops you don't like and they don't even buy anything. I'd rather just do what I have to do. And my hobbies are pretty manly lol, most of my friends are guys and I prefer just kicking back and being one of the lads than being with girls. I don't relate to most NT women at all
    - I'm usually the last to get jokes unless they are very obvious.

I can think of more, but I don't want to make this list too long.
Response in the bolded. You have a lot of similar symptoms to me, if that's any help.

You have just described me. But, I have been given at least 3 explanations for being light sensitive.

I went to the GP on Tuesday. I can't remember if he told me if he will get in touch with me or if the 'specialist' will get in touch with me. I will give it a week and then go back if I didn't get a response.

Aye, it might be. If it isn't AS, then I'm just weird.
    What are those 3 explanations?

    It is.

As for the touch thing: I don't think you're weird due to this at all. If I don't like what I touch, no one else is allowed to touch it either. When I see it (or hear the noise it makes.. *cringe*) then it makes me shudder too. I have forbidden my parents to touch and move their hands on the table cloth in some restaurants.

I read somewhere something about having androgynous traits and seeing yourself more as half-male/half-female as being part of AS traits in females. That would most certainly apply to me too.

I'm afraid to ask my mum about my childhood. I just know that I was a cry baby, had speech impediments and rather played by myself than with others.

Right, let's do this brain sex quiz.

    What are those 3 explanations?
People can get it for no reason at all. (IE, no underlying eye / brain problems) I've also been told that I have it because I have part of my optic nerve missing and because I have another eye condition, which means that my eyes wobble. (Nystagmus)

Either way, it's getting worse and worse (I now have a 5 watt bulb in my lamp because it's that bad) and I am fed up of it. Can't even go out without coming home in pain now.

I got 1 in empathy and 11 for systemising. I do know this quiz, but have done an extended version of this where I got 7 for empathy and 81 for systemising. Here's the link if you're interested:

Right, let's do this brain sex quiz.
I'm like that with noise, some sounds are unbearable. Can't explain why they're just horrible, can't stand it. The half male/half female thing definitely applies to me, I feel female appearance wise but have a totally male personality and outlook. I'm not trans* and identify as female, just a very tomboyish one. With my childhood, I preferred hanging around adults and my parents said I was talking about intellectual topics with them and their friends articulately when I was 3 or 4 :zomg: I also played with toy cars and computer games more than typical girly toys.

Out of interest if you don't mind me asking ofc, what digit ratio do you get? Someone on here introduced me to it the other day and apparently women with ASDs have more male ratios than NT women and I found the topic really interesting. Mines 0.88 so it fits for me.

How is it with a monitor screen brightness? That sounds quite bad, though. Do you think there is a way of decreasing your light sensitivity?

Aye, I'm also not trans*, but I don't really identify as anything. Mainly because I don't care about it that much, but if I had to, then definitely female. I'm also very tomboyish. According to my mates I'm manlier than a male friend of ours, but I have no idea if he was serious about it or not.
    That is incredible.
I definitely had on average better friendships with my teachers than my peers.

I measured my fingers about 7 times now and the ratio for both is 0.97, so close enough. :p:
But I don't really count too much on this because there is also this hypothesis that lesbians have longer ring fingers than index fingers.

I can change the monitor brightness; so it's at a level which is bearable for me.

I don't think anything can be done, unfortunately.

I get told things like this as a sort of semi-joke. I did too, I got on really well with some teachers but was hated by others (mainly those who couldn't be bothered and liked nice, normal, conformist children and simply saw me as an annoying pedantic smartarse :teehee: )

Ah, school. I don't miss it anymore. Up until I was 16 I was usually sitting alone somewhere, reading a book. Somehow this concerned a couple of teachers and made them feel sorry for me. :p: I loved it really.

It means that some people try too hard to figure out why some people are gay. :p:

I hated the fire alarm when I was at primary school, used to scare the living **** out of me. Was just the tone and the panicky sound that used to make me freeze to the spot. Nowadays I'm perfectly fine with them considering it's mostly milder siren based systems.
