a bit of tv/speakers help please!
hi guyss
basically i have a tv in my room that i would like to get some speakers for,
but i don't know if my tv has a "sound output" thing on the back, i know it doesn't have space for an optical cable, anyway this is a picture of the back of my tv, is there anyway i can get sound to come out of speakers i would buy - (would be nice if i could also connect to my laptop when not using tv)

thanks -
Re: a bit of tv/speakers help please!
If there's a headphone jack round the front, that'd work - nothing on the back there for sound output. A decent set of PC speakers should help you out for better sound.

I'd recommend HDMI if your laptop supports it as that carries sound as well as video. Else, the VGA port and a 3.5mm > 3.5mm from the headphone jack on the lappy to the Audio In on that pic would suffice. Unless, of course, you want to use the sound from the laptop.

Re: a bit of tv/speakers help please!Dude. Read what you've just said!(Original post by Aack)
I can see 3 audio inputs on that picture - the one at the bottom to the bottom left of AV1 is probably your best bet if using PC speakers. Try plugging some headphones into it and see what happens. You might need an adaptor of some sort though.
they're inputs, not outputs!

Re: a bit of tv/speakers help please!yeah thought there was no sound output, no headphone jack either, guess i'm going to buy speakers just for my laptop then(Original post by mikeyd85)

Re: a bit of tv/speakers help please! No headphone jack anywhere seems a little odd. That's something TVs have had for ages. It maybe that a headphone jack is somewhere else on the TV.(Original post by yellowtrees)

It's also possible (although a bit unlikely) that there's an audio output on one of the scart sockets. Try reading thev manual or searching google for your tv model. -
Re: a bit of tv/speakers help please! All SCART sockets I've seen on TVs have output as well as input (it's a primitive way of TV signal distribution and is part of the SCART specification).(Original post by mfaxford)

SO the SCART, if installed and working properly, will output as well as input, both video and audio. -

I will guarantee that at least one (if not both) the scart sockets have audio out ...

with one of these

The op should be able to do as he wanted .. -
Re: a bit of tv/speakers help please!
I know im bringing up an old thread but I thought the results of some experimentation I've done might be of use for other people.

On my fairly new samsung tv (D5520) the scart socket does indeed have audio output on it(Original post by H.C. Chinaski)

However it only appears to output fixed level audio from the TV tuner. Also when using a HDMI input the audio doesn't match the picture.

Re: a bit of tv/speakers help please! That's because you're meant to run it through something else which has its own volume control. A HiFi deck perhaps?(Original post by mfaxford)

Re: a bit of tv/speakers help please! Not a problem for me I was running it into my mixer. I think I missed part of a word in my previous post and for the more critical part:(Original post by AidanLunn)

The audio out on scart is only audio from the freeview tuner so if you're using a HDMI input the audio coming out the scart socket doesn't match the audio that should be there. This is probably dating back to when this setup would have been used to feed audio/video to a VCR to record that (although I'm not sure if I had a composite video out for the freeview signal)
For me there are two fixes for that. Run seperate audio outs from PVR/ Bluray etc. to the mixer or use the headphone output from the TV instead of the scart. -
Re: a bit of tv/speakers help please!*all* Freeview boxes have to output composite because comp video has been pretty much the standard in one form or another since TV began. However not all output component or RGB.(Original post by mfaxford)
