I want to try my luck for a public school near me, its £4,600 per term and it allows scholarships at A-level if you have great GCSE results.

It depends what kind of scholarship, and who is offering the scholarship. Is the scholarship offered by the school itself, or by an independent individual or company?
Ultimately, your best bet would be to email the school and ask them. It also depends how competitive the scholarship is; my guess in general would be > 6 As.
