Re: 21st Century Science GCSE Unit 2 P4P5P6 - Thursday 2nd February 2012
I did a really silly but somehow half right thing... For the question about describing a step up transformer, I didn't actually know how to draw one because I don't know what they look like! So instead I drew some steps going up and labelled them "Step Up" then I drew a stick man walking up the steps and labelled him "Voltage"! :/ at the top of the steps I drew an arrow and labelled it "The National Grid"........ I did describe it properly so I at least got one Mark? :L

Re: 21st Century Science GCSE Unit 2 P4P5P6 - Thursday 2nd February 2012I put it gets hot because the filament metal heats up(Original post by science-oliver)
for the writing ones i put:
The filament lamp gloews because it is very hot so it lights up and also this is because moving electrons BUMP into stationary atoms in the wire and it heats te component (resistor up).
I said that when the motor bike slows down it transfers the kinetic energy to heat energy. i said once it slows down it uses is breaks and it turns kinetic energy into sound energy when it brakes. The energy is aso transferred to the surroundings.
The construction of a transformer is that: TWO coils of wire wound onto an IRON core. If their is more coils on the secondary coil rather than the primary coil then the voltage is increased and this is a STEP UP transformer.
Then for the calculations ones i changed the 1.5km into metres so i got 7500/1500 and i got 50 for the friction
For the resultant force i got in momentum i got 20 which was the change i momentum and i divided it by 5seconds so i did 20/5 and i got the force as 4 Newtons
Then for the amount for the power of the bill of the house i got £30
and for the one about the punchbag i got
TRUE, FALSE, FALSE, TRUE, TRUE
what did you lot get for sme of these questions?
In my answer I put as the motorbike slows down the kinetic energy dissipates to heat energy via the brakes
Transformer one I drew like a transformer and labelled it with core, primary coil and secondary coil. Primary core had less coils and secondary had more coils. What marks do you think I got?
Household bulb I got £30
Punchbag I got True True False True True -

Re: 21st Century Science GCSE Unit 2 P4P5P6 - Thursday 2nd February 2012
I found this exam realllly hard. I got A*'s in biology, chemistry and physics in the first 3 modules but I think I probably only got a B in this exam, or maybe a C. I've already handed in my re-sit form. The most annoying thing is that the really clever people said that this exam wasn't too bad. I thought chemistry and biology were ok though but there was too much maths which I didn't know in this. I hope the grade boundaries are low but I'm not too optimistic.
I lost about 4 marks on the maths questions and probably about 10 on the rest of the paper so that gives me 28 maximum which is probably a B
I literally didn't revise at all so I'm really annoyed with myself.
On the electromagnetic spectrum question, I did it so that the frequency x wavelength always equals the speed of light. Is this right or wrong? -

Last year the grade boundaries were rock bottom (27 for an a*)
Unfortinatley I doubt I even got 25.
At this stage, I would be so happy with a B, considering i messed up big time. I was so nervous I even drew multiple lines for the reflection question because I was shaking so badly.
I taught myself to be optimistic recently, to avoid my hairs falling out, but theres no point for physics.
You're lucky you was able to hand in a resit form. I ask that to my teachers and I will nearly enough get slapped (EVERY science teacher in our school is mental) -
Re: 21st Century Science GCSE Unit 2 P4P5P6 - Thursday 2nd February 2012I got the same answers,(Original post by lucasluke)

Household bulb I got £30
Punchbag I got True True False True True
1. I put it gets hot because a Current flows through it which makes the filament heat up and glow.
2. I put when the motorbike slows down the kinetic energy dissipates to heat energy through friction, and some energy is transferred ti the surroundings.
3. I drew a transformer and labelled it with iron core, primary coil and secondary coil. The primary core had less coils and secondary had more coils on it. and then talked about it's assembly.
4. Household bulb I got £30 also, plus it was kind of obvious, as 20 days electricity would not cost, £3 or £300
5. Punchbag I got True True False True True, same also.

Re: 21st Century Science GCSE Unit 2 P4P5P6 - Thursday 2nd February 2012Why thankyou! That's what my friends said actually(Original post by lfmox)
Full marks for being so creative
I haven't told my Physics teacher yet though... He won't be happy!

Re: 21st Century Science GCSE Unit 2 P4P5P6 - Thursday 2nd February 2012
I thought this was the hardest of the three, thought chemistry was the easiest, reckon I've got 34/5ish? Will that be enough for an A*? Only three people in our school thought physics was the easiest paper, everyone else thought it was very very very hard. But anyway... Did anybody else get 1000N for the one with the motorbike? Basically I worked out the momentum, then rearranged the equation for change in momentum and ended up with... 1000N. But people are saying it was 4N. How so??!?!

Re: 21st Century Science GCSE Unit 2 P4P5P6 - Thursday 2nd February 2012Well done I think you got all of those right, I did the exact same thing for all of them except for the one about the motorbike, I got completely lost and forgot that I was supposed to talk about energy being transferred, I must have misread the question(Original post by science-oliver)
