    Membership in which Durham college?
    Hi friends,

I have been offered a place in Durham Law school for doing my PhD.Now,I have to fill my college membership ,although I went through website and read the information about colleges , still I am confused.Actually,I most probably will not stay at the campus,so I am not really sure how this college membership applies on me.

Anyway,If I have to choose one college membership, which is more preferable for a Law PhD candidate not living in campus? personally,I love choosing university college however I am not sure about its suitability for postgraduate student or distance from law school?how the college is important for a postgraduate student not staying in campus?since I have never studied in such system I am not really sure what criteria I should consider.

I appreciate if anybody who is familiar with Durham university college system could help me deciding about my membership. Many thanks

Hiya; I'm surprised this hasn't been replied to yet!

First off, Durham doesn't really operate with a 'campus' system - all the colleges are spread through the city, with a cluster on 'the Bailey', next to the city centre, and another cluster on 'the Hill', closer to the Science Site (to where the Law Library is about to move)

If you don't intend to live in college accommodation (ie. going through a private landlord instead) then your college will have relatively little impact on your life. However, I would recommend Ustinov college, as it is generally regarded as 'the postgraduate college', where there will be a larger number of people in the same situation as youself. It's also relatively near the Science Site.
