GOGSoc Episode V: The GOG Strikes Back
Taking the next step in your studies? Here's where to talk about postgraduate study and courses.

Re: GOGSoc Episode V: The GOG Strikes BackThat describes pretty much every society here in Oxford, I swear.(Original post by IlexAquifolium)
I loved Spartacus - RIP
we watched both of the series. Never seen such an utter sausagefest on mainstream telly though! My straight male friend was expressing shock at the amount of willies on GoT (two?). I told him never to watch Spartacus. Cocks everywhere.

Re: GOGSoc Episode V: The GOG Strikes BackOUCA in particular.(Original post by The Lyceum)
That describes pretty much every society here in Oxford, I swear. -
Re: GOGSoc Episode V: The GOG Strikes BackOh god there is something so inherently disgusting about those guys isn't there? Not that the other political parties are much better; just less in your face abhorrent. If our Lib Dem soc is singing rude songs and throwing Hitler salutes when out and about at least no one hears about it.(Original post by obi_adorno_kenobi)
OUCA in particular.

Re: GOGSoc Episode V: The GOG Strikes BackWell, part of the problem is that OUCA and the worst aspects of the Union are one and the same (talk about, uhem, back channels). In the way that OULC and OUSU are not (they're more ineffective than abhorrent. Never did I feel more uncomfortable as a working-class comp kid in Oxford than when OUCA were about. Unfortunately at my particular college they were about in large numbers.(Original post by The Lyceum)

Re: GOGSoc Episode V: The GOG Strikes BackThat sucks, to be honest I've never really had anything like that at university despite said background. The one time some idiot did make a few comments (midlandsish accent here, you see) I kindly bade him look at himself, and then at me, and wondered if he doubted I could dash him around the ground with little trouble. I find impending violence quickly shuts people up if they're unaccustomed to even the smallest physical disagreement.(Original post by obi_adorno_kenobi)

In my department, though you would think it toff-central even those with the most ludicrous accents are reasonably nice. College wise I'm at St Anne's which is pretty whatever about everything. -
Re: GOGSoc Episode V: The GOG Strikes BackNice one(Original post by evantej)
Had a three-day internal inspection at work earlier this week to try and prepare us for an OFSTED inspection sometime after Easter. The part that was related to me went extremely well: the women who observed said it was the best she had ever seen in any prison (and I think there could still be massive improvements so perhaps I have very high standards!).
Booked in some leave next week, which, with the bank holidays mean I will have all next week off. I think I might use this time to go to either/both Durham and Edinburgh to rape their libraries for resources.
Stumbled across a programme called Drop Box which is rather nifty this weekend.
And yup Drop Box is awesome!

Re: GOGSoc Episode V: The GOG Strikes BackAh, well you're probably less antagonistic than me! I'm about as pragmatic as an Amazon army ant - what I lack in strength, though, I more than make up for in ferocity of tongue. St Anne's is indeed quite pleasant though I never had much reason to go there. I was at one of the pre-Reformation colleges, perhaps cos we're worth it.(Original post by The Lyceum)

Re: GOGSoc Episode V: The GOG Strikes BackConsidering he'd probably come (no pun) from games of soggy biscuit in school, you must have seemed like an angel descended from the heavens.(Original post by The_Lonely_Goatherd)
Some nutjob from OUCA decided (in my first few weeks at Oxford) that I was going to be his girlfriend and proceeded to woo/stalk me. This despite the fact that he was anti-immigrant
-
Re: GOGSoc Episode V: The GOG Strikes BackWhat does "games of soggy biscuit" mean/refer to?(Original post by obi_adorno_kenobi)
Considering he'd probably come (no pun) from games of soggy biscuit in school, you must have seemed like an angel descended from the heavens.

Edit: never mind, just Googled it
Teebs knows this guy. Apparently he had got banned from self-defence classes for "inappropriate touching". He was a weird one. SO glad I got rid of him when I did. I was about to set our Tutor for Women on him but thankfully he gave up. Apparently it was all my fault for going on a bouncy castle with him and then telling him that we couldn't be friends because it would be culturally scandalous (thus turning things into forbidden love)

Re: GOGSoc Episode V: The GOG Strikes BackTiz very bizarre(Original post by Chumbaniya)
Boys' boarding schools. I don't understand either.
Stalker Boy (as I call him) went to a mixed day school. Though I wouldn't put it past him to be involved in weird games like that...

Re: GOGSoc Episode V: The GOG Strikes BackThis sounds identical to Cambridge. Including interchanging Peterhouse with 'my college'.(Original post by obi_adorno_kenobi)

Re: GOGSoc Episode V: The GOG Strikes Back
I've got drop box, but I haven't used it yet. Tbh, I take my laptop with me everywhere, so I don't haven't really yet found an occasion where I needed to use it. Still, its comforting to know I can access things remotely if I ever need to.

A few weeks ago in London I finally found the reflexes to punch the random guy who grabbed my arse in the street and yell insulting threats at him. Unfortunately he was too drunk to notice
Usually when it happens, the person has gone by the time I react. Knocking him out would have been much more satisfying...
