Re: CURRENT YEAR 12s-Hopeful Medics (Mk. II)!I'm going to Cambridge for the 4th and the 5th! Which colleges are you planning on visiting?(Original post by frogs r everywhere)
Will start my UKCAT revision soon. I have had a mixture of reactions from friends who've already started practising since May! My BMAT revision will probably start in september. Anyone going on the Cambridge open day on the 5th?
And my UKCAT is booked for the 20th July I've been practicing since the end of exams in early June. Then I've got BMAT preparation from July, as well as personal statement writing! What a fun summer ahead! -
Re: CURRENT YEAR 12s-Hopeful Medics (Mk. II)!
If any of you guys need any advice about applying to Medicine or doing the UKCAT/BMAT (I got offers from Cambridge, UCL and Birmingham) feel free to PM me. I wouldn't have made it into Med school without the help of some awesome people on TSR and their advice, especially as my college was pretty useless, so now it's my turn to give something back.

Ah I see! I thought I wouldn't have much time if I did it any earlier(Original post by SaintSoldier)
I've booked the 5th September (tactically missing the first day of school
), so mine's even later!

Re: CURRENT YEAR 12s-Hopeful Medics (Mk. II)!I really wanted to visit St catharine's on the 4th! I'm probably going to visit Gonville and Cauis, Pembroke and Emma. I always thought preparing for the Bmat in july is kind of early (considering that its on the 7th of November), but I guess we better start early than late(Original post by Aeger)

Re: CURRENT YEAR 12s-Hopeful Medics (Mk. II)!
I heared that Birmingham changed their 7/8/8.5 A* GCSE requirement to giving preferance to those offering A*'s in science, english and maths. And they also favour applicants with 4A's at AS. So does that mean, applicants with 9A* without an A* in english will be disadvantaged over candidates offering only 6A*s including core subjects (which would have been an automatic rejection in the 2010/11 cycle) ?
They suprisingly changed their interview style too, from traditional interviews to MMI's.
hmmm....... -
Re: CURRENT YEAR 12s-Hopeful Medics (Mk. II)!If they require an A* in English, then I'm afraid that is the case. I'm, surprised about their choice of interview style. I hate the idea of MMIs.(Original post by frogs r everywhere)

Re: CURRENT YEAR 12s-Hopeful Medics (Mk. II)!
Yes. Me too. I'm probably going to exclude all universities that do PBL, MMI's or are just too far away. Leaving me with just 11 to choose (including all 4 BMAT uni's)(Original post by AspiringGenius)

If you could please, try not to double post. Generally frowned upon

Re: CURRENT YEAR 12s-Hopeful Medics (Mk. II)!I'm not too fond of PBL courses. I have been to a w taster sessions at Peninsula and e impression they gave is that the med students decide what to learn and when(Original post by frogs r everywhere)

. Im thinking fo not applying, but the problem is, is that if I don't do too well in AS results, then I'm going to have to apply to PBL places as they seem less bothered about AS results than the traditional places.
I hate the idea of MMIs, but if I like the course I'm going to have to get over it. I would feel bad not applying to somewhere simply because of their interview technique.
The only one I'm not applyang to over distance is Belfast. I live in the south west but I have relatives in Scotland so Aberdeen is the furthest from home, but there is yelp nearby should I need it. I really don't like the idea of being a body of water away from anyone I know though. -
Re: CURRENT YEAR 12s-Hopeful Medics (Mk. II)!I'm going to visit Kings, Clare, Emma, Gonville and Caius and Kings today. I'm 100% sure I'll be applying to one of those five. And yes, I think that the BMAT is going to be slightly harder than the UKCAT because you actually have to revise, I've just ordered CGP Biology, Chemistry and Physics revision guides for GCSE and the BMAT practice book!(Original post by frogs r everywhere)
