Re: CURRENT YEAR 12s-Hopeful Medics (Mk. II)!What units are you thinking of resitting?(Original post by ameelia22)
So just wanted to ask: If im resitting some modules in june, do i have to state that on my UCAS formally?
I like critical thinking(Original post by chiny94)
A2 critical thinking?! Wow my school will never let us take any a2! critical thinking or not! In fact they abolished general studies and critical thinking actually so we don't even get to do it anymore, not that I'm complaining or anything
Whereas general studies sucks :/. I only need 49/100 UMS in the next critical thinking exam to get an A at A2 - but I'm hoping to get an A*

Re: CURRENT YEAR 12s-Hopeful Medics (Mk. II)!I wouldn't worry, the odd resit should be ok with the vast majority of medical school's - we're not all robots and we can all have bad days. Just make sure you blitz the exams in june and learn from any mistakes you have learned so far.(Original post by ameelia22)
What up!
You'll have to excuse my feistiness earlier in the thread 8) on the thursday night but i was a tad disappointed with my results, not shockingly bad or anything, just 'grammar school mentality' really kicks my ass! (Specifically goes out to Pride, and Xotol!)
So just wanted to ask: If im resitting some modules in june, do i have to state that on my UCAS formally?
And there are rumours floating around in college, saying that next year their going to change the system for the way resits are counted, and so it's always your resit mark that goes forward, even if you did better first time around? Does anyone know if there's any truth in this?
Furthermore, a teacher was arguing yesterday, that medschools are likely to penalise you if you have resits (Eg, resitting a low A for an 90+ UMS) because you are taking "resits for the sake of it," - what do you guys think about this? Apparently, even if they say that they don't mind if you have resits within 2 years of your A-levels as part of their selection process because they all, as humans do, have their own views on it?
Thanks in advance!

Two As in C1 and A2 Crit Thinking
I was going to - but with my EPQ I don't really have time - have you?

I did do one, yes, although i've had quite a bit of time since i haven't started the EPQ yet. -
Re: CURRENT YEAR 12s-Hopeful Medics (Mk. II)!
Hey everyone, haven't posted since the first thread!
My results were.....not as good as I hoped. I got A in Biology (79/90), B in C1 Maths (72/100) and C in Chemistry (56/90). Of course, I'd really like to retake the Maths and especially the Chemistry - I just didn't put in enough preparation for chemistry and I didn't finish the Maths paper in time, missed out on about 15 marks.
Anyway, I just wanted to ask - if I retake these exams, will I ever be able to do medicine? Because I get different answers from people - some people say as long as I retake them in June (and get a better result), unis won't even know about it; some people say if I retake at all, I won't be able to do medicine anyway; and some people say that I won't be able to apply to Cambridge because they ask for every individual module result you've taken, but everywhere else is fine. I'm sorry, I know questions like this are probably really common, but I'd just like a definitive answer whether or not I'll ever be able to become a doctor......Thanks.
Congratulations to everyone's fantastic results by the way! -

What units are you thinking of resitting?
See above? It's not like i'm retaking D's, and I don't know how much UMS i can re-gain... my question is that if we dont blitz it in the retake, but actually just go up a few UMS (which is what I predict will happen to me) will Uni's be looking at it like, "Dude. You gained 7 UMS. Poor decision to retake. *moves application to bin*"(Original post by oli_G)

dot worry, it's the first exams and medical schools know people uave bad days- particularly as it's the first bridge crossed between GCSE and A Level.
You still did well! Exams were hard and grade boundaries high, results day was different this time

Re: CURRENT YEAR 12s-Hopeful Medics (Mk. II)!You should look at the universities' views on resits, especially ones that you are thinking of applying to. In any case, if I was in your position, I wouldn't really bother retaking Bio. You got an A in Bio which is a good mark, and retaking could affect your performance on other exams (especially with all the content there is in Bio). I'd say it's better to concentrate on the Bio exams in the summer to ensure you get a solid A.
As for Chem, what about remarking? It's only one mark from an A after all..? It's up to you if you want to retake that tbh.

Does this mean that they won't accept any module resits either? Or do they mean a whole year-re-sat?
Do Universities know if you resit something in the same year?!
Thanks for the advice
I will probably take it!

Re: CURRENT YEAR 12s-Hopeful Medics (Mk. II)!yeah the chem was so different to anything wed ever done! didnt get as high as i wanted but i guess its selfish of me to complain with an A! lol(Original post by Natalie21)

Basically everything you've heard is correct.
If you retake in June: No, the universities will not know about it. This is because when you get your results in August, you get your overall AS Grade, which *should* have been certificated (aka 'cashed in') thus all you need to do on your UCAS form is put in your overall grade. It remains up to you if you want to fill out information on individual module scores.
If you want to retake modules from your AS, in your A2 year (eg. January) because your not happy with your AS overall grade, then on your UCAS form, you have to put in the overall grade given, no matter how good or bad it is, but also include the modules your resitting as "pending" - this means that your illustrating to your university that your AS grade (and thus A2 Grade) may change dramatically due to these resits.
If you retake - you absolutely can get into / cope with medschool. If you were sat there with 3 E's with no intention of doing any better, then you don't have a chance. Your first AS modules in January are the ones that people are meant to **** up as a wake up call. I know all too many people with 13A*s, sitting there with CCC because they thought they could take it easy, as their GCSE's were a pile of piss. Whoever is saying this to you, is trying to discourage you, don't let them, it's a complete lie.
What they say about Cambridge however is true. Unfortunately, as i am not a prospective Cambridge student myself, I can't shed any more light onto it for you, but can repeat that yes, Cambridge require your UMS (or percentage or something) for each individual module, and bearing in mind that the majority of their prospective students tend to have around 90% + on each module, you may want to reconsider this option. Do not take my word for it, check their website
Bear in mind, that this is just their university - as said, the rest are fine.
Thank **** for that! Can you check everything I've said above is true? I know UCAS may (?) have changed since your time of applying, but hey...(Original post by Penguinsaysquack)
A levels, not modules.
As long as you achieve the grades in a 2 year period it's fine
What with Universities now knowing your AS results, is their any point in predicted grades, do ya know?
Thanks

and I have my second chemistry exam and my first psychology exams on the same day
I'm just glad that I'm not taking further maths haha it's really random actually since I have all exams within the 2 week period then I have a week then I have my last psychology exam on the 29th lol ohmygosh I've got 6A*s! We are in sync yeahyyyy well it will all depend on my ums and ukcat but I'm most definitely thinking UCL and Barts but I'm not quite sure about others tbh
I've been to leicester open day but I didn't like it very much, I don't think it would suit me
[/QUOTE]
aw no that's horrible
aha well at least you'll have ages to revise for that psychology exam :L haha we really are! we take really similar subjects as well :P ahh why did you not like Leicester? I haven't been there myself actually, but it sounds quite nice :L
Whereas general studies sucks :/. I only need 49/100 UMS in the next critical thinking exam to get an A at A2 - but I'm hoping to get an A*
