Yep, 100% down for that.

Christ, I've got the Chem one after easter :| apparently, they're hard as ****. NOT looking forward to it :"(

Ehh, Bio wasn;t impossible, got the written paper next week though, then Chem written a week after that...

Original post by Obsolescence
I only did 5 :s but the EMPA was pretty annoying! Wasn't even something good like enzymes.njust ecersize. I gave uo PE for a reason?..

I had 4 main colums, and 4 sub-sections in one colums for repeats  everyone got different ones though...

Original post by Anna-Jack-Hope
Please don't say that, I have mine next week, now I'm worried!!! At least my chem one isn't for ages, don't actually think we're doing it till after Easter...insane teacher :/

lol, don't worry it's not impossible. I'll comment more on the hardness after the written paper. It's jus an unorthodox experiment...

Oh we didn't get given the time to do repeats. Do you hhink that'll be ok if I only did it once?

this is true, the drop-out rates for uk students in these med schools are high because they'll just fail you if you can't communicate well enough in your pre-clinical years. Imagine having to quit during 2 or 3 years of medical training?

And the qualifications aren't normally completely transferrable to this country, you'd have to take a couple exams. I wouldn't agree that 'you wouldn't be respected by your colleagues',

why so? Your colleagues are doctors not investment bankers who all studied in target unis. Many asian doctors studied in their native countries and emigrated here because of the great demand for them from the government. They had to take exams too.

If you do not get in the first time, and you feel medicine is worth the effort, definitely apply again. It's not really worth applying to somewhere that isn't the UK, Australia or the US (it's arguably harder with british qualifications, I would say don't bother with the US actually)

I got that impression from talking to Helenia , she's on this forum a bit, and it's not so much that it's overseas, and it's not like it's a LEDC or a bad university. It's just i think the question would come up, "why did you go to the czech republic to study medicine with no prior experience of that country ?" And i think i would have a hard time trying to convince someone (Docs, nurses, HCAs, Domestics whatev) that it wasn't because i couldn't get into a British med school, and that gives an impression of incompetence.

I think the main thing is we agree that Medsim are dicks for doing this, and applicants should be discouraged.

Ah really? Isn't it quite hard to do an evaluative if you haven't done the practical for it? :s-smilie: And at my school we HAVE to do all three tasks twice, no matter how we did on the first ones! But they also don't tell us how we did, at all, apart from like a hint eg 'you might want to try a bit harder on the qualitative next time' or something :frown: I have finished all of them yeah- did the last biology one on wednesday :'D Only have the big chemistry empa (written) to do now..

we were supposed to have a talk from an oxford admissions tutor today, but she went to the wrong school so we never got one

Whattt?!!!!!!! That's crazyyy!! They don't even tell you how you did and stuff?! And I thought my school was bad :colondollar: what board are you on for your subjects? Actually, I didn't even ask you what subjects you took, what did you take for alevel ?

Ah damnnnn that's unfortunate! How can she manage to go to another school?! :frown: ... I have my concert on wednesdayyy eeekkkkk

I know its ridiculous, they say its cause they have to be moderated so they don't want to give us a mark too high or too low, but I still think it's unfair :frown: hahaa I take maths (edexcel), bio (ocr), chemistry (aqa) and socioloy (aqa) what about you?

it sounds similar to ours, but it's nowhere near so she couldn't get back in time  Apparently another day's gonna be arranged now though so it's all good  and we also have a cambridge person coming in in like 2/3 weeks  oooh concert for what? :zomg:

That is pretty ridiculous! Oohhh I see well I take bio (OCR), chem (OCR), maths (AQA) and psychology (EDEXCEL) woo! Quite similar actually  So we must have same biology exam in may! Is yours on the 14th May?

The Oxford lady for our school told us everything that I already knew, except the fact that Oxford doesn't call it the pool system but reallocation haha I obviously have done my bit of research into competitive universities  and Cambridge one shoud be interesting!!! It's concert for flute quintet that I'm in  music is a huge part of my life since I've been doing it ever since I was like 4 haha do you know any extra curricular activities?

Er... Yes they do... UCL is the only university which disadvantages applicants who have resat AS/A level modules within 2 years.

Thanks for clarifying.

Original post by mento_addict
Well Sheffield say they don't accept A2 resits so you can probably retake within the 2 years but I go by if they state something like that they obviously wouldn't look kindly on resits in general. And Newcastle say that they don't look at resit results at all for medicine, it only says this in their prospectus for 2013 entry, doesn't specify anything on the website, so since Newcastle is my current 1st choice, no retakes for me!!

I'm also the same with 2 BMAT unis maximum, will probably end up with only Imperial for BMAT

And yes, well I'm sure before I make my final choices I will do a lot of research anyway, and if I haven't had to do any resits *fingers crossed* I'll probably apply to Newcastle.

I think if you do more than 2 BMAT Unis you have a real risk of having yourself rejected before being given a chance to prove yourself at interview, I'll probably end up applying to Cambridge & UCL or Imperial depending on which one I prefer when/if I visit.

Haha 12!? Wow that's a lot :P Thanks - I don't really know what to expect when I get there but I'm pretty sure there's gonna be a lot of aspiring medics like us lol.
I found out about the event online and then I had to purchase tickets for the event which were pretty cheap (only £5 for school students) so I thought why not?

Same story here ^_^
Urgh, I hate physics so much.

The concepts are just URGH, theyre almost impossible to understand sometimes! How on earth am I supposed to infer from this diagram of random black and white patches that the x-ray diffraction pattern show that DNA has a helical structure :frown: Feel like crying because its so hard.

Screw medicine, I'm dropping out and becoming a high-class male escort :ahee:

Is that the X shape that Rosalynd Franklin discovered?

That's a good plan, that's a lot of money in that

Wish I didn't open my emails. I've just been rejected from the work experience I applied ti for the summer, that's everywhere I've applied to (quite a few places) who've let me down now. I may as well not bother now :cry2:

I'm in year 13 and have an offer for Newcaslte medicine and just writing to say don't give up looking for work exp placements!

I got mine (last year) in the second week of October (just before the deadline, phew) and had a placement set up for November. Just keep looking! I live in Derby but commuted to Sheffield to do work exp in Sheffield Hallamshire Hospital
