Geography/Environmental Sciences 2012 freshers.
No doubt people will start looking for future course mates soon, so thought I'd get a thread going on here. It'd be good to get to know others on the course, hopefully getting to know each other will make the first day go that little bit smoother (Certainly did on my first course!)
I currently hold an unconditional offer for all 3 geography courses (Geog, physical geog and human geog - Dont ask
) and Environmental science.
Still not entirely sure which to go for.
This will be my second first year - Im changing course because the one Im doing at the moment isn't for me.
So if you've got any questions about Manchester or first year in general ask away. -
Re: Geography/Environmental Sciences 2012 freshers.Do go into more detail! Im worried by 'fine'. That could go either way(Original post by robo donkey)
If you haven't already met Chippy, prepare to be amused, he's a fine lecturer

Re: Geography/Environmental Sciences 2012 freshers.
There's some great tutors, there's one guy called Mark, he's a slight hard ass and seems angry all the time but he's actually awesome and will help you loads, he's a genius with GIS based things. There's a great selection of modules you can choose too, so I wish you both a good time

Re: Geography/Environmental Sciences 2012 freshers.Same halls as me mate!(Original post by Bombbob)
I'm doing geography; moving up from Birmingham in September. I'll be living in Cambridge Halls

I decided to go for Environmental science but I was assured I'll be allowed to change if I don't like it. We'll have most of the first years lectures together, but I might just end up on your course

Re: Geography/Environmental Sciences 2012 freshers. That's what I like to hear. Did a year at uni last year on a course with very few people on and it wasn't great(Original post by robo donkey)
A fairly good amount, Environmental Studies on the other hand had literally about 3 people

Re: Geography/Environmental Sciences 2012 freshers.
With MMU you'll be ridiculously mixed up anyway, I spent lots of time with geographers and everything, the amount of cross over in terms of modules is massive. GIS is a good way to go but it's a hard few modules, I did them and my diss in them though, really fun

A couple of my friends were Geography freshers last year at MMU and they said its really mixed - Sounds alright to me though, more chance to mix with people outside of your flat/course I suppose.
I'll certainly be doing GIS! Not had much experience but it seems right up my street. Never one to shy away from a bit of hard work either
All being well I'm hoping to go on to do a masters, GIS is one of the options I'm looking at! -
Re: Geography/Environmental Sciences 2012 freshers.I've not had any timetable other than for the first week for Environmental science.(Original post by TechTF)
Anyone else who is doing Geography/Environmental science hasn't received their timetable yet? There's nothing when I checked it on myMMU
Mind you, I've not really had a decent look for one!
There are fair few people on various facebook pages saying they've not got timetables for a couple of subjects though, so maybe we'll just have to wait until we arrive
