Viva done. Great success although walking into the room to see both of my supervisors giggling was a bit unnerving! Gotta add about a minute to my presentation now - I ran though it and it was a little bit too short!
Congratulations!
Is a viva really as scary as it sounds? You're so brave! I'd be in pieces!Last edited by lozzyhickers; 28-05-2012 at 17:52. -
Re: The Uni Study Thread Mk II
Exam went well - the topics I revised came up and the questions were broad so I didn't get caught out with specific theories. I was so nervous beforehand, I haven't felt like that since I sat my A2 exams! One exam left tomorrow - got loads of revision to do (good short term memory, ****ed long term memory). So my evening will consist mainly of stress! But by tomorrow I'll have finished my degree (assuming I haven't failed anything)
. Hope everyone is holding up well, we can do it!

Re: The Uni Study Thread Mk III honestly think it depends a lot on your supervisors and how much you've put into your project. I'm lucky that I my supervisors were really nice and I found the project really interesting so the viva was more of a discussion about how the project could be improved next time (muhahah, someone else has to do my masters project) rather than a run through of the things I've failed at! I've heard some vivas were horrid but honestly, I've done two and found them both to be not as stressful as I expected. I think the best tip is to be honest, if you don't know something then just say so. Today they asked me why I hadn't gone down one route and my honest answer was that I didn't understand the maths behind it (it was super complex!).(Original post by lozzyhickers)

Re: The Uni Study Thread Mk IIThat doesn't sound too bad then. I know i've got 3 years until/if I do my masters, but it's good to know! Thanks. And i'm glad it went well(Original post by hothedgehog)

Re: The Uni Study Thread Mk IIHaha oh no, sorry to hear that! My lecturer asked questions on the most obscure aspects of the topics, and worded them really strangely so it took about 5 minutes to figure out what the question was asking. It was nothing like the past papers!(Original post by pk550)
Guarantee mine just went worse - LMAO!!!!!
degree's a marathon, not a sprint....trying to reassure myself.
The lecturer is the warden of my hall, want to go pay him a visit and ask WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO US?!??!? -
Re: The Uni Study Thread Mk III would just say Dear John but some unis are really pissy about calling their lecturers Professor Smith so you might want to err on the side of caution?(Original post by ilem)
This is slightly off topic but how do you address a professor that you've never met in an email? I'm transferring courses and I'm emailing the head of the school I'm transferring to in order to schedule an appointment, would a simple Dear Name suffice? -

Re: The Uni Study Thread Mk IINo, it's more respectful to call them "Mr. ___" or "Dr. ___" or "Professor ____." Use whatever title they use. I address my tutors by their first names in e-mails because that's what they use with us because we know them, but if you've never met, it's too informal to call them by their first name.(Original post by ilem)

Re: The Uni Study Thread Mk II
Haven't posted in here in ages.
Basically sat exams a month ago (Jesus Christ, where's the time going?), and don't really know when we get the results. Not looking forward to them.
Going to prepare for September now - want to read all my books well in advance and even do some practice essays because I'm really not up to the standard I want to be at. I started uni wanting a first and don't want to choke up once **** starts getting real.
Making an appointment with an adviser this week, he already thinks I'm retarded so want to ask him what I need to do to totally kill it this year.
Oh and I'm STILL looking for a job

I wish everyone with exams the best of luck

6th July and strangely not thinking about it (although this would change probably the week of results(Original post by hothedgehog)
Think of me at 2.45 when I will start giving the last ever presentation, and piece of work for my degree. Huzzah. Also, results are out on 15th June - when is everyone else getting theirs?
)
Good luck for presentation!
