Re: Favourite quote of all time?
At the moment, it's
"One shivers slightly, looking up there.
The hardness and the brightness and the plain
Far-reaching singleness of that wide stare
Is a reminder of the strength and pain
Of being young; that it can't come again,
But is for others undiminished somewhere." (From Philip Larkin's 'Sad Steps')
BRRRR! Shivers indeed!
Of all time, it's probably...
"A brave heart and a courteous tongue... They shall carry thee far through the jungle, manling." - Jungle Book
Or
"The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it." (Omar Khayyam/Edward FitzGerald).
I just like cool poetry really, oops -
Re: Favourite quote of all time?
“What came first – the music or the misery? Did I listen to the music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to the music? Do all those records turn you into a melancholy person?”
“Sentimental music has this great way of taking you back somewhere at the same time that it takes you forward, so you feel nostagic and hopeful all at the same time.”
“People worry about kids playing with guns, and teenagers watching violent videos; we are scared that some sort of culture of violence will take them over. Nobody worries about kids listening to thousands - literally thousands - of songs about broken hearts and rejection and pain and misery and loss.”
- High Fidelity, Nick Hornby
Anyone guess my favourite book...?
And also:
"I don't want to achieve immortality through my work. I want to achieve it through not dying."
- Woody Allen -
Re: Favourite quote of all time?Where is the bolded from?(Original post by Jaytex)

"You cannot fathom the immensity of the f**k I do not give"
"Both happiness and sadness fade away with time"

"There's no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid people" - Mr garrison
"I really haven't had that exciting of a life. There are a lot of things I wish I would have done, instead of just sitting around and complaining about having a boring life. So I pretty much like to make it up. I'd rather tell a story about somebody else."
"If you ever need anything please don't hesitate to ask someone else first."
“Nobody dies a virgin... Life ****s us all.”
Basically all Kurt Cobain's quotes...Last edited by mattamz; 29-01-2012 at 22:57. -
Re: Favourite quote of all time?
Relationships don’t work the way they do on television and in the movies: Will they, won’t they, and then they finally do and they’re happy forever — gimme a break. Nine out of ten of them end because they weren’t right for each other to begin with, and half the ones that get married get divorced, anyway. And I’m telling you right now, through all this stuff, I have not become a cynic, I haven’t. Yes, I do happen to believe that love is mainly about pushing chocolate-covered candies and, you know, in some cultures, a chicken. You can call me a sucker, I don’t care, ’cause I do…believe in it. Bottom line…is the couples that are truly right for each other wade through the same crap as everybody else, but, the big difference is, they don’t let it take ‘em down. - Dr Cox, Scrubs.
I love Dr Cox's rants.
And a serious one:
They who can give up essential Liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety - Ben Franklin
