Apart from that, the exam had nothing that was unaccheivable. The problem was that there were too many questions which required a lot of thought, and the time spent on these impacted on other questions. Basically, if we had had more time, we would have been able to think enough to at least make good guesses! I didn't even have chance to check my work, and a few of my calculations were wrong. That's cost me 5marks to start with. The wordings were vague too, and the exam caught a lot of people (including me) off guard because it was so utterly different to ANY previous paper. I think AQA should have had a specimen paper with application of knowledge questions on, which would have at least got us being able to get used the style of questions, because we have all adapted to the simple recall ones. FML.

I used 3:5 ratio and got around 97%, I haven't heard any one else say they got this so hoping that's not 5 marks gone! did anyone else get around 97%?
i got this using the ratio they gave us

I know the worst thing about the paper was the HSW/application questions when all of the past pspers were pretty much recall

Also there was definitely not a fault with the ratio they gave. The moles calculated to something like 3x10^-3 and multiplying it by 7/3 than multiplying it by 10 gives 0.1 moles and mass is something like 2.6 something grams. So 2.3/2.6 gave something like 70%
Except the initial mass was 1.8g so it is over 100%

EDIT: Some people have said 1.381, I forgot which, but even then, still over 100%

Exactly my point! Half of my paper was guess work. The only section capable was the colour of transition metals but then again they didn't make that easy as past papers! I don't know what was going through their heads when they wrote the paper!

You mean as a catalyst? It usually is an ion....

It was worth 4 I think- 1 mark for the equation, 1 mark for the explanation thing (I can't remember what they asked), and 2 marks for the half equations.

I know the style was completely different from other papers. I opened the paper expecting a nice Born Haber cycle question

And I almost forgot to put the reagents for the TM question

    X as a fraction of Y is X/Y, not Y/X. :indiff:

For the graph i didnt work out gradient but put j/k/mol and delta s. would i still get two marks? And how many marks was the percentage mass question including ratio?

    Re: Aqa a2 chem5 19th june 2012
I wasn't going to bother posting here because I didn't want everybody panicking like I am over this exam. Im on a gap year because I found out today last year my Dad had cancer which was a day before the June 2011 exam and I didn't get a chance to sit this exam in January because my Dad passed away a week before my exam. This is my deciding exam which I have spent 3 month preparing for and was extremely hard and completely different to what was from past papers.

I hope the grade boundaries are lowered and from everybody I've spoke to they've all found it extremely difficult including somebody who was moved up a year in 6th form because he's a genius ha!

As for the paper regarding the spec as much as I would love to to kick off about stuff not being on the spec it was all spec work The problem with the paper all questions were up to at least C standard and higher every time there was not a good range of questions.

For everybody who has got this far, the reason I I didn't originally post is because I had a copy of the paper 10 mins after the exam and thought it probably be best I didn't post it on here straight away but I will post it soon as im at my computer. I'll have to take it apart and scan it in
