Current Year 11 Thread Mark II
Discussion for GCSE students, including those studying for IGCSEs and O Levels.

Re: Current Year 11 Thread Mark IIOkay, I'm butting in here, but three maths AS levels?! I'm struggling with just plain old maths GCSE! I'm truly amazed! Wow, I didn't even know you could take Addtional Further Maths!(Original post by GreenLantern1)
I am doing Maths, Further Maths and Additional Further Maths. -
Re: Current Year 11 Thread Mark IIWouldn't you be better off with the full books? Revision guides won't teach you everything you cover in lessons, unless you don't mind that.(Original post by CharlieBoardman)
I will be starting on my AS revision guides. -
Re: Current Year 11 Thread Mark III usually just use the CGP Revision Guides, as I find them quite enjoyable! Can you suggest any decent full course books?(Original post by Cubic)

Yes, I love my iPad!
Eurgh, I'd never spend money on Literature material. -.- I don't know how people can revise for English.
And I thought I was enthusiastic...
As soon as I have finished P3/C3/B3, I will be starting on my AS revision guides. I'm not touching them until I've completed my science GCSE's though. I don't have enough time in the day at this moment in time! All my spare time is spent reading.
Are you doing OCR science, B3C3P3? -
Re: Current Year 11 Thread Mark IIEmail the college you want to go to and ask what they recommend / use.(Original post by CharlieBoardman)
I usually just use the CGP Revision Guides, as I find them quite enjoyable! Can you suggest any decent full course books? -
Re: Current Year 11 Thread Mark IIMe too.(Original post by CharlieBoardman)
We are with the AQA Exam Board.
I made a thread in the chemistry sub-forum, you might find it useful. -
Re: Current Year 11 Thread Mark IIWhich guides have you ordered?(Original post by multiplexing-gamer)
You have an iPad? Me too!
Just ordered all my English lit revision guides
I have York Notes for Heroes, Hobson's Choice and Of Mice And Men, although I now wished that I had used 'Letts Explore' rather than York Notes, but oh well lol, they will do! -
Re: Current Year 11 Thread Mark III've just checked it out, and that's quite interesting! But as it already says on the thread, don't you get extra marks for the long winded calculations, rather than retrieving the answer from one calculation that won't be stated on the mark scheme?(Original post by Cubic)
Me too.

I'm not sure about C3, but I'm sure that it will be the same as C2. -

Re: Current Year 11 Thread Mark III think I may adopt your method. Much simpler.(Original post by Cubic)
On C2, a correct answer gave full marks.

Re: Current Year 11 Thread Mark IICool, how many marks do you need in the C3 exam?(Original post by CharlieBoardman)
I think I may adopt your method. Much simpler.
As it stands, I need 88 marks for an A*. I did poor in the ISA (did it in year 10) so I'll be resitting it this holiday.
And whilst we're at it, what marks do you need for P3 and B3? -

Chemistry: 67
Biology: 72
Physics: 60
You?
That re-sit sounds sensible, just to be safe!!Last edited by CharlieBoardman; 02-04-2012 at 23:44. -

Chemistry: 88
Physics: 84
Biology: 104 (or 64 for A)
Already done resits for physics coursework, p1a, p1b and b1b, waiting for results.
Planning to resit B2 (75 marks). -
Re: Current Year 11 Thread Mark IIThank you, so are yours! Good luck with your re-sit results too.(Original post by Cubic)

That B2 paper was quite nasty. It was the dodgiest one I've ever come across anyway... -

I'm currently making a word document for C3, almost like my own revision guide. I think revising like this will help, would you like to look at it when I'm finished? -
Re: Current Year 11 Thread Mark IIThat's quite an interesting method of revising. Yes I'll definitely take a look. My method of revising is teaching. I have a girlfriend who I have been with for over 2 years now, and I have basically taught her through her Maths and Science GCSE's. Once you can teach something thoroughly with no prompt cards, you know it pretty well! I even held my own revision classes after school sometimes(Original post by Cubic)
Thank you.

Re: Current Year 11 Thread Mark III've been lazy and stupid. The earliest I've started revising for a science exam is the day before, and quite often on the day in the car whilst going to school.(Original post by CharlieBoardman)

I've offered to teach my parents but they're not interested and I've never had the motivation to do it myself.
I don't know where my motivation has come from but the past few days I have the drive to work hard, I think I want really good results and the exam period kicking in soon has affected me.
I've always preferred learning to revising, by far.Last edited by Cubic; 03-04-2012 at 00:29. -
Re: Current Year 11 Thread Mark III have a friend who does next to no revision, and gets very comfortable A*'s. He claims that revision makes him forget things. I say he's just a lazy bugger like yourself(Original post by Cubic)

My parents don't like being taught either, they'd much rather watch period dramas -.- It's really useful having a girlfriend sometimes
My motivation kicked in at the back end of last year. I used to be a right clown. Now I'm more focused than anybody, and all my friends and teachers are really confused/happy that I'm working properly lmao.
Once I have been taught something once, I don't usually need to be taught it again, and I can quite happily just revise it myself when I like.
What are you taking at College?
