Re: Embarrassing things parents have said/doneWe have a family friend who does this, but she writes hers in a really self-satisfied way, which bugs me. I guess I like to have a letter that's more personalised than a standard "newsletter".(Original post by sammy-lou)
Too many things to even begin thinking about. My parents send out an annual family newsletter, done up on Publisher like a little newspaper article, telling distant relatives and friends what we're all getting up to and making cringe comments like "Child X is discovering the wonders of retail therapy" and "Child Y is turning in to the family academic" etc. The thought of these poor people receiving these letters makes me want to curl up and die.
we do have names, not letters, before anyone cracks a joke there

Re: Embarrassing things parents have said/doneMy Dad doesn't even give/send me a birthday card. But if he did, this is exactly how it would be.(Original post by TheStudent.)
My dad sent me a birthday card once, via post, no message, no 'To Daughter', just a signature at the end... Thanks dad/businessman... -
Re: Embarrassing things parents have said/doneYeaaaah, almost like boasting I guess! Nothing worse than something like that which looks mass-produced to show off to everyone. Think my parents have a sort of in-between approach haha(Original post by Rascacielos)

Re: Embarrassing things parents have said/doneThat was the first time he'd ever given me a card lol(Original post by Rascacielos)

I would've preferred nothing at all, not exactly a card you'd expect from a father

Re: Embarrassing things parents have said/done
Okay, I know this isn't in public (thank GOD), but...
This morning I walked into a room having just woken up, thinking my dad was at work. He was sat with his back to me and went "AH!" and slammed his laptop shut. I just went "OH FOR GOD'S SAKE" and walked off, planning on forgetting the whole thing.
He's just said to me "it's not abnormal for people to watch porn on computers you know"
WHY BRING IT UP AGAIN. WHHHYYYYYY?!

Re: Embarrassing things parents have said/doneI was just joking. Obviously I appear in public with them, but just not on parents evening and similar events. I already get pointed at by peers (and even teachers!) despite not even attending myself... my dad is too outgoing. You need to experience it before you can cast comments.(Original post by TheStudent.)
Its nice to see you love your parents so -
Re: Embarrassing things parents have said/doneAaaaah, that is amazing!(Original post by Pomppufiilis)
At a parents evening. Talking to my new History tutor.
Mum: Oh Pomppufiilis really didn't like her last teacher he wasn't very good was he, has he left?
-a good 5 mins silence-
My Old History Teacher: No I haven't left...*wave*
He was sitting at the adjacent desk.
What did your mum say then? Talk about awkward. -
Re: Embarrassing things parents have said/donehahahaahah(Original post by izzaha)
my dad enjoys my embarrasment, outside his work, he doesn't care what people think of him, which i admire, when i was younger, he would take us to town, and say loudly ''no you cannot get more than two things from poundland!'' i laugh at it now :P
Reminds me of one of Ross Noble's stories of him embarrassing his wife/gf in the supermarket by asking if they needed nappies (they have no kid)

Re: Embarrassing things parents have said/doneNo you said you didn't go out in public with them at all. Hard to tell sarcasm online, don't hate(Original post by Ilyas)

negger. Next time explain yourself? Because as far as I was aware, this thread is about what you/parents actually do to embarrass you, rather than making it up to get rep.

Re: Embarrassing things parents have said/doneMy mum said to my brother "Have you gained some weight? You're starting to get a tummy." and prodded him in the stomach while his girlfriend and one of his friends were there!
