I'm doing a BA in English and am considering pursuing further study in the field of applied linguistics. I'm interested in forensic linguistics and am going to be attending an open evening at Cardiff next week for their MA in Forensic Linguistics. It sounds really exciting but I'd rather not be an academic. I was wondering if anybody knew if there was much going in terms of job prospects for forensic linguists. I had initially considered the Home Office's Forensic Science Service but it's going to 'winding down' in March apparently
Does anybody have much experience or has anybody done the course?
This is a popular masters course at the University of York. I think there's only really one company that employs forensic linguists, and that's JP French and Associates. Peter French lectured at the uni a couple of times, including once for the York Linguistic Society
