Civil Engineering - Liverpool John Moores University
I have an offer from LJMU, and even though it's one of my lower choices, I was just wandering what people make of the university, especially it's engineering department.
I've heard that engineering is one of the universities stronger courses as it used to be an engineering college.
I know it's not a stereotypical 'prestigious' University, so I don't need to be told that it's a former polytechnic and a 1992 University.
I'd appreciate any information from people who attend the University or have done in the past.

Re: Civil Engineering - Liverpool John Moores University
I am in a similar position. i have an offer from ljmu, bristol uwe, plymouth, and salford.
do you know which ones are the better ones for civil engineering?
when i looked at a league table for civil engineering ljmu was last...
is engineering one of its stronger subjects then? -
Re: Civil Engineering - Liverpool John Moores UniversityI have an offer from Plymouth as well. To be honest, I'm not going to go out on a limb and say outright which University is better, basically because I don't know myself. Also, it's not just about the University, it's about their department.(Original post by jamesbass)

League tables are said to be unreliable, but I can't help not ignoring them, I myself have referred to them a few times.
I spoke with my Head of Sixth and she said LJMU is one of the best modern Uni's for Civil Engineering.
Isn't the course at UWE pretty new? I looked at that as well.
Plymouth offers Civil with Coastal, which seems pretty interesting, but I'm not sure if that's just a fad. Also, Plymouth is quite far away from me, and with train prices rising, I've decided that LJMU will be a higher choice for me.
Salford is meant to be pretty good. I met a guy who did his Msc at Salford after he completed his BEng at Uni. of Liverpool, and went into a firm for a few years. He said that he preferred the teaching at Salford.
If I had to rank them, I'd probably say: Salford/Plymouth, LJMU and then UWE. I just checked the league tables and before was more inclined to place Salford above Plymouth but they're both ranked very close to one another in both league tables I checked.
Does anyone else have any more information? It would be much appreciated! Thanks! -
Re: Civil Engineering - Liverpool John Moores UniversityNice one! I've made LJMU my insurance, but I'm not sure I'll meet the grades for my Firm choice, so LJMU looks more realistic!(Original post by Alex3591)
I have firmed my conditional offer for Electrical & Electronic Engineering at LJMU starting this September

Re: Civil Engineering - Liverpool John Moores UniversityNice one man, what is your firm choice if you don't mind me asking? I know what you mean, I got offered DMM with a merit in further maths, which I'm glad because its certainly achievable. I can't wait for September nowNice one! Uni. of Liverpool is my Firm, but we'll see what happens! -
Re: Civil Engineering - Liverpool John Moores UniversityActually, the course is accredited otherwise I would not have applied for it.(Original post by usernonapplicable)
If it's an ex-poly, I doubt the course is accredited.
