Between 11-12km per hour is my speed.

The stepper is really hard to do properly which is why most people don't do it in the gym. Its funny when I see people try to do it then after a minute they give up and walk away because they can't keep up. Took me months before I was able to do it no stop without resting on the sides. Plus most people who do it don't do it properly as they rest on the sides when they should only slightly hold it for balance.
I only manage about 9km/h. I've started using it more for HIIT rather than running though now, seeing as I run during the week. Gets a bit tedious.

Ah yes, you're meant to go quite quickly so that the steps stay near the middle or something aren't you? I think I remember some trainer tell me this at the gym. I think it's one i'll put off trying until the gym is fairly empty

The two things i found that burns the most calories in the shortest period of time is the steeper and the treadmill. So I do one of the following

1 hour on the steeper (at a speed of about 100 steps per min)
1 hour on the treadmill (run over 11km in an hour) and then about 10 mins on the steeper
5 km on the treadmill (about 26mins) then about 40 mins on the steeper
Gosh don't think I could last 1 hour on the treadmill. I get so bored easily. Longest I've lasted is 36 mins.

Was going to go for a run again tomorrow, but I think after 2 days of running in the morning then walking a lot in the afternoon, my legs could do with a break - last thing I want it's to undo all the work I've done since my knee injury in December/January.

So I'm going to get up and do pilates instead I only did 10 minutes on Sunday, but my abs were still aching a bit this morning, which is definitely a sign that I need to do it more often! Going to aim for 30-40 minutes this time

It's my friend's 21st tomorrow, and I'm going round to hers about 1ish, so no idea what my eating/drinking is going to be like

What pilates do you do? I'm assuming you use a dvd or something? I really could do with something to do at home that works my core etc instead of just doing crunches and things.

hello everyone, is it the right place if I just want to exercise more and not necessarily eat more healthily (step by step yeah)?

    Thanks.

One of the reasons why I run soo long is that I always wanted to be able to run non stop for a long period of time but never was able to run for more than 3 mins. I'm also planning to do a half marathon in October so I have to do build up my runs so that I can run non stop for nearly 2 hours . I do find it tedious at times but I just love the feeling of accomplishment afterwards

I won't worry about staying near the middle for now. I'll just put it at level 1 and learn how to use the stepper without resting on the machine or going too slow for about 5 mins as it took me a while before I could use the machine properly.

How many calories have you been eating in the last week and how much exercise have you been doing? Its typical when one is on a plateau to have a small weight gain (well that's what happened to me also when I plateaued)
Well I'd been having around 1200 calories, but then on Sunday I binged I didn't expect to gain 3 pounds though!
But I'm all over it now. I just need to work harder! I'm switching up my exercises now. Gonna start running more.
What did you do to break out of your plateau?

Definitely and step by step usually gets the best and most maintainable results :-).

I use 10 Minute Solutions: Rapid Results Pilates It's quite fast paced, so it definitely feels like a work out, even if you only do one section (it's got 5 x 10 minute sections).

Wiken up feeling totally NOT in the mood to do it, but going to force myself anyway, cause I know I'll feel better after.

^ Similar to Flo but I use 10 Minute Solution: Pilates Perfect Body. I vaguely recall watching youtube clips of each and deciding the instructor on Perfect Body was slightly less annoying than the other. But it's a really good DVD series; I suggest you do the same as I did before choosing one

Seriously though, it's highly unlikely that one day of bad eating has caused you to gain 3lbs. You would have had to eat 10,500 calories ON TOP OF your maintenance.

So try not to let it bother you :hugs:

Done my 30 minutes of pilates Adn, as predicted, feel much better for it (if rather achey)

Just tucking into a big-sih breakfast (poached egg, 2 slices of toast with marmite and a glass of juice). The friend I'm meeting later doesn't tend to see food as a priority (she' tends to live on cigarettes and black coffee), so at least this way I've had one decent meal today.

So I went to the birthday meal yesterday and had a chicken burger It wasn't even that nice, and gave me an awful stomach ache Had a really nice time though, so it lifted my spirits a bit I suppose. God knows what I'm going to eat today though, as I don't have much in the house and no money either. And I have a mountain of work to do. Happy days.

Agreed. I hope I didn't offend you...i'm actually really impressed with the level of commitment you have and I hope you meet your goals Since reading your posts, I've been very protein conscious so I've learnt something!! The other day I had a really protein rich late lunch (3pm) and by the time I finished work at 11pm, I really wasn't as hungry as I usually am and ended up not eating much for dinner at all...protein actually works!
Nah I wasn't offended at all

 Protein is magical! I'm still trying to teach myself properly to tell the difference between boredom and hunger though.
When I'm at home it's so easy to just graze all day long because there's nothing to do, but at uni if I'm writing an essay all day long it's easy for me to forget to eat lunch!
Ah well, I'll get there in the end!

Ah cool. I'm 28% bf at the moment, and would like to cut down to around 20%, but i'm going by how I look and feel rather than numbers. Not measuring weight at the moment, only body fat percentages. I've always been quite sporty and I rowed the first two terms at uni, but i'm ill at the moment and have been doing no exercise due to fatique so I've lost some of the toning that I had (the doctors have suggested anti depressants for me, but i'm adamant that i'm not depressed!)
What results have you had so far? Have you seen any change in bf yet?
I've seen some differences in my before and after photos (I take pics once a month), so that's been encouraging.
More than anything else so far has been the changes in energy levels, mood and irritability that I've noticed, plus it just gives me a sort of mental boost now that I understand how eating healthily impacts my body internally, if that makes sense.

Yesterday was my boyfriend's birthday and we went for a curry. Don't have a clue how many cals were in it but I had a vegetable korma with boiled rice (which is what I'd get whether I was dieting or not) and managed to resist getting sides, or alcohol. Boyfriend ate loads though lol, and although I don't resent him having a good time on his birthday, I don't see how any one person needs QUITE so much food. Had half an easter egg and a slice of cake when I got home, and I'm happy carrying on like that until Easter chocolate is all gone.

Got on the scales this morning and I've managed to stay the same so far over Easter which is great.. boyfriend says he's LOST two pounds! Great for him, but I'm jealous because he's eaten LOADS this week! That's just the jealousy in me lol I am happy he's finally managing to shift it :-).

Flo[ProActiv] is right there is no way even on a binge you eat over 105000 calories. Even an obese person would find it difficult to eat that much in one day

The reason why I think you are not losing weight is because you are eating too little as well as doing lots of exercises on top. As a result your body has gone into starvation mode. When I plateaued I had to increase my calories from 1200-1400 to 2220 calories which is my maintenance calories. I also decreased my gym sessions from 5-6 days a week to 4 days a week and aim to burn 3500 calories a week through exercise alone.

My advice is that you need to slowly up your calories to at least 1500 calories on none exercise days and around 1800 calories on days you exercise. It may take a few weeks for your body to adjust but if you stick to it for a month I'm sure that the weight will start shifting again

Went to the gym today and manage to do a 5k in sub 25min which is a personal best for me . I remember my first 5k in which it took me 33mins to do.

On a more negative note though I got tempted and use the gym scales to weigh myself even though its TOTM for me and gained 3lbs . Hopefully I will get down to 10st 9lbs by the end of next week. Losing the last few pounds is soo hard

Well done! I did my first 5k yesterday in about 35 mins. Hoping with my continuing weight loss plus training I can decrease my time

I'm a tad jealous when my bf can eat loads more than me, he has no need to lose weight so eats the normal 2500 calories, whereas I aim to eat half that amount. He always gets the last slice of whatever. Grr, lol.
