Re: Healthy New You: Your Change For Life #2You should get him to have a look at this website: http://www.marksdailyapple.com/#axzz1sJj7b9oM I've mentioned it several times now, and am trying to get everyone I know to start this lifestyle. If you have a look at the insulin and diabetes article it explains how eating grains and sugars leads to pretty much most preventible illnesses, it's very insightful and since embarking on this new lifestyle i've never felt better!(Original post by xoxAngel_Kxox)
On phone so pain to multiquote sorry! He's 28, been diagnosed since he was 26, which I think is a ridiculous age to be developing something that can be to some extent controlled. He has to do a finger prick 4 times a day at the moment, and take about 10 pills every day, and they're now threatening him with insulin if his sugars don't improve. His sight is getting progressively worse, he's losing feeling in his feet, things aren't great in the bedroom (sorry if tmi lol) and he has the ability to change all that!
As I've said before, I think I've ranted about this in the last few weeks haha, I worry so much about him, reading stories about blindness, amputations and at worst death scares me. What scares me the most is that most of these stories are from people at least twice his age, yet he's already getting to the stage where these things are being mentioned. I worry for myself as well. How I'd cope if anything happened to him. This will sound stupid but I even worry about having kids with him because I don't want my kids to lose their Dad.. How mad am I worrying about people who don't even exist yet! -
Re: Healthy New You: Your Change For Life #2
Does any of you have a fat day where you just feel terrible?
I have been feeling like that in the last few days (probably because of TOTM and the bloating that comes along with it) including today. Then when I finished in the gym today someone gave me a complement about my back and that I looked amazing and we got talking about each other's weight routine which made me feel a bit better about myself.
I do find it strange though that I get comments like that (and even some mean ones where people are telling me I'm too skinny) but sometimes all I see is fat in the mirror even though I am definitely not fat (especially as I'm a size 6 in top and 10 on bottom). Just wish that sometimes I can learn to stop being so critical about myself and look at the positive side of things -
Re: Healthy New You: Your Change For Life #2It's not just about calories in v calories out. Eating no grains and eating a diet high in fat creates the body into a fat burning machine! If you're eating a lot of carbohydrates and not enough protein to support muscle growth and repair you may still be losing weight from the calorie deficit (because true enough, if you're burning more calories than you're using up you WILL lose calories, but those calories may be coming from muscle tissue and water in the cells, NOT pure fat loss) Mark's daily apple explains all of this in full. I no longer weigh myself but take body fat percetages as a guide as to how much fat i'm losing. I've lost 1% bf since last week (which is about 1.5lbs of weight) but because i'm following a high fat, high protein, low carb diet, I know that the weight I have lost is all fat. I hope this explains the paleo diet and the context of calories clearer.(Original post by xoxAngel_Kxox)
I've done so much research about it, and he knows full well that he can save a lot of things if he starts eating healthily now. He almost seems to have given up, and it breaks my heart.
Seeing me lose weight hasn't inspired him; it's made him even MORE self conscious and has made him bury his head in the ground even more.. which is totally the opposite to what I'd hoped would happen.
EDIT: Also, the guy in the paleo thread is doing my absolute head in. So rude. What is it about people who can't admit that it REALLY IS as simple as calories in v calories out. Why does everyone seem to think that there has to be some kind of HUGE state secret? YES he followed a special diet with special foods, but he lost weight because they were LOW CALORIE not because of ANYTHING ELSE about the food.
AHH.
No offence to the guy, he's done well, but it's people like him who confuse people to the extent that they can't be bothered even trying. It is so SIMPLE, why do people insist on making weight loss seem like the most complicated thing on Earth!
EDIT AGAIN: Just done C25K day 2!

Re: Healthy New You: Your Change For Life #2Maybe save the calories to another day where you may end up using them????(Original post by Yellow-nutshell)
Having bit of a bad day food-wise. Have got the most insane cramps, so haven't really felt like eating. Currently netting about 870. Normally a gym day but couldn't fit it in with other plans, and kind of glad now. So painfullllll!

Re: Healthy New You: Your Change For Life #2Yeah think I will! Just can't face eating any more. Have to get out running this week so will make up for it then. This half marathon training isn't going to plan this week!(Original post by Chrisateen)

Re: Healthy New You: Your Change For Life #2
I lurk this thread all the time but always forget to post!
You're all doing so well and should be really proud of yourselves. Even on a bad day, just remember that this isn't a diet, this is the rest of your life and bad days are going to happen occasionally!
I have lost between 5-10lbs in the last 6 weeks (proper weigh in day on thursday
) which is slower than I was losing before but it's so nice to see the scale moving in the right direction again. Finally managing to settle in with my calories again, and have been going to the gym as often as I can.
Will try and make sure I post here more often and if anyone wants to add me on MFP my username is lucysarah93

Re: Healthy New You: Your Change For Life #2Yep I know exactly how you feel and everyday has been like that recently. But sometimes I feel like just because I look slim in clothes, it doesn't mean I'm slim out of them! But we don't see in the mirror isn't what other people see....I mean, that comment in the gym proves it. It's all a mindset...like one day you wear an outfit and feel amazing and the next week you wear it and feel awful knowing full well that you look the same. It's a mindset that you have to force yourself to change. The other week I felt fat and instead of hiding under a baggy hoody, I forced myself to put on a fitted dress and pretend that I felt amazing...because you start to believe it after a while if that makes sense. If you feel like **** then don't show it...fake it till you make it and all that.(Original post by Chrisateen)

I've put on weight recently and my friend and I were having a discussion the other day. He said to me 'can I be honest? You know before Christmas when you were skinny...well you looked awful and everyone thought it!! We just didn't say it because you felt good.' Opposite scenario but highlights the fact that what we see in ourselves is warped sometimes and isn't always what other people see. At the time I felt great and skinny but looking back on it, it just didn't suit me. Being told I was too skinny boosted my ego and made me wanna lose more but I know now that it was wrong.
You should be so proud of yourself for what you've achieved and insecurities don't disappear overnight...in fact they'll never disappear but you learn to accept yourself for who you are.
Remember that the next time you see a girl with a gorgeous body, she is probably having a fat day too and we all have insecurities. That woman at the gym was looking at your body in envy in the exact same way we do to others. No-one judges us more than we judge ourselves. -

Re: Healthy New You: Your Change For Life #2Out of interest what is the 30DS?(Original post by Kate.)
Apparently Jillian actually said the 30 days thing is more of a marketing technique - she actually intended for people to do 2 days of 30DS, 1 day cardio, 2 days 30DS, 1 day cardio and a rest day, rather than 10 days in a row of each level. Just pick up wherever you're comfortable!

Re: Healthy New You: Your Change For Life #230 Day Shred! Popular exercise DVD by Jillian Michaels, circuit training with 3 minutes strength, 2 minutes cardio and 1 minute abs (repeated, of course - unfortunately not just a 6 minute workout haha). She does loads of different ones. Personally I alternate between 'Banish Fat Boost Metabolism' and Ripped in 30 now (the next programme after 30 Day Shred).
