4th subject for language degree - Further Maths or English Language?
Title's self-explanitory really. I'm doing Maths, Spanish, and French for A-Level for certain, and I want to do a degree in languages, problem is I don't know what to do for my fourth subject. I've posted about this before but yeah...that doesn't really matter.

I would rather do Further Maths as I have a certainly have a profound understanding of Mathematics. It's the only subject I can just click with almost instantly. I finished the GCSE in November and got an A* with an overall UMS score of 584/600: 326/330 in the last module.

However, because of my degree choice, I imagine that it's probably important to have an essay subject too. I would rather do English Language, as the study of spoken language really interests me. I know the focus is completely different at GCSE, but I'd rather choose this than Literature or History.

If I did need an essay subject, would doing Further Maths and Critical Thinking be a good option? I know Critical Thinking isn't classified as a main subject but I need to get the essays in somewhere, and doing Further Maths and English Language would be a killer D:

Honestly, I can't say much for further maths as I didn't do it, but I think English Language would really complement doing languages. Particularly doing language aquisition allows you to use your knowledge of other languages to help you.

I do English Language along with French and GCSE Spanish, I find it really useful and it compliments my languages really well. We learn all the grammar stuff in English, then in French it's easier because I don't to learn the English grammar before I can understand the French one: like I already knew what the passive voice was after we studied it in English, so when it came to it in French I already had a head start.
However, don't choose a subject you'll hate just so it looks good for university. I tried this by taking Maths, and I dropped it after two weeks cos I just hated it!

I do Further Maths and Maths at A level, some universities do not accept Further Maths at A/AS level in conjunction with Maths (for non maths/science courses) as it has 'material that overlaps' with Maths
At least that's what I found which is sad as I love Further Maths
Possibly the essay subject would be more useful
    Hope this helps

have you looked at the university websites that you would be interested in going to. this could be helpful as it will show you what combination of A levels that you need to be taking. if you do love maths as much have you considered a joint honours in a language and maths, i know these degrees are widely available. but definitely look at the university websites so you know what A levels are acceptable. hope this helps.
