That is upon the addition of D20. TMS or tetramethylsilane is used as a reference peak, as it is very close to a 0 value. :smile:

yep, basically when a halogen alkane is added to excess amonia...for example

ch3ch2cl + 2nh3 ---> ch3ch2nh2 + nh4cl

so an ammonium chloride ion is formed. but when ammonia is not in excess
HCL is formed ...does that make sense? :smile:

D20 helps identify the 0H groups
TMS is used for a refeerence peak as it is:

chemically inert so it doesn't react with the sample and
volatile so it can easily be removed afterwards... :smile:

i din't do too wel cuz tehre was a stupid glas beads questions..you might have heard about but yh...i like learning the stuff but i didn't liek the exam..have you done f215?
and nope you acrry on revsiing for the bio..speak 2 u lter...

no its first time ? but the paper was nice i did it as mock the Jan 2012 and got a high B
