Politics degree chances
Hi, I was wondering if my GCSE grades might affect my chances for a top university and I want to take Politics at degree level, which is pretty competitive.
Currently studying Modern History, Politics, Religious Studies and Theatre Studies, all at AS level. I intend to drop Religious Studies because I absolutley hate it. I'm excellent at History, Drama and Politics and I'm always getting As in my mock exams and coursework.
Although, my GCSE results aren't good enough, 1A, 3Bs and 7Cs, the A being in Citizenship :/
I have a great level of experience when it comes to politics, I value my experience within the UK Youth Parliament, sitting in the House of Commons twice and many other events including both Conservative and Liberal Democrat conferences meeting lots of MPs
I want to go for Nottingham, Birmingham and King's College London, all which have requirements of AAB, which I can get if I work hard for it, but I want to know if my GCSEs can mess up my chances, can you guys help me? -
Re: Politics degree chancesI have an offer from Nottingham to study law and I only got BBBCCC at GCSE(Original post by Einheri)
With the exception of Law Nottingham doesn't care that much about GCSEs. My GCSEs suck more than George Michael in a public toilet but it wasn't an issue at all - get your required A-Level grades and have a great PS and you should be fine.
Obviously I stepped it up a bit at A level though -
Re: Politics degree chancesI think I got 2 Bs, a few Cs, and the rest Ds. I used to smoke a lot of weed, haha.(Original post by nick369)

id say so longs you do well in your personal statement and AS levels you should be fine ... kings college is a bit iffy though these london unis have a policy of being notorious GCSE nazis
but youve got good extra curriculars especially the youth parliament which will be a diamond in the rough on your PS [well done on that i never got elected when i ran
good luck! -
Re: Politics degree chancesI'll keep that in mind(Original post by blondie :))
As long as you get good AS/A2 grades and have a good personal statement, you could go to a very good university! Your experience will help as well and makes you stand out
(Just to point out that Sheffield is a VERY good university for politics
)

Also, thanks guys, things are looking a lot brighter for me now, so I'm just gonna be studying hard for my AS levels

Re: Politics degree chances
If you are interested in the British parliamentary system, I'd really recommend looking at the BPLS course at Hull University, which offers a year's internship in Westminster. With other politics degrees at Hull, you can also do a semester in Parliament. The contacts you make are incredible and many researchers have been at Hull.

Re: Politics degree chancesUnless they state something specific eg must have a B on english and maths, there are no hard and fast rules.(Original post by redhead330)
What about York? I'm guessing they're pretty militant with gcse grades since they're really popular
York isn't known for being particularly fussed about GCSE grades anyway. AS grades and A2 predictions are what matters.
