when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?
Discussion for GCSE students, including those studying for IGCSEs and O Levels.

Re: when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?Agree, I didn't revise for mine came out with 1 A* in English literature, dont ask how didn't even read the book and 15 A's. At the end of the day GCSE's count for **** all, you only have to write what the examiner wants to hear and most of the science ones are multiple choice anyway(Original post by littleone271)
Revision for GCSEs? REALLY? lol Errm.. I revised for maths and stats and a little bit for french and IT but that was it. There's absolutely no point revising for English.. I always thought I was crap at it and I never understood how or why people would revise for it.. I was in the bottom group and got an E in my mock but I got 2 B's in the real thing and my exam grades actually pulled up my coursework grades. I just did a bit of revision the night before the exams. Most GCSE stuff is common sense but I probably would have done better if I'd worked harder and revised more. I got 2 As, 5 Bs 3 Cs and a D (french). And that was a long time ago, apparently they've got easier since then.. -

I didn't.
That's how you get 4 A*s, 6 As and a B, folks.
But I'm suffering and dying now with A levels... -
Re: when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?
started in the February Half term.
That lasted about a day. I wrote up one of my geography case studies, only to have my teacher tell me it wasn't in the course she'd taught it 'for fun' ¬¬
After that, read the book on the buses on the way to the exams. Made up my geography case studies on the day,
Whoop de do. Did rather well

Re: when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?
The night before for most of them (though I read to kill a mockingbird in the week running up to my lit exam). Geography I started a couple of weeks before the exam though - I needed a high A* in the second paper to pull up my As in the coursework and the first exam to an A*.
I did the most revision for French in year 9. I have no idea when I started, but it was several weeks before the exam. -
Re: when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?I have 24.(Original post by Caz.123)
I have 16
but the two philosophy papers are back to back and so are the two ethics so it's only really 14...

Re: when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?
I started proper revision in the Easter holidays, but then worked really hard in the weeks running up to the exams and especially during the study leave - was really happy with my results. At the end of the day, don't look at what other people are doing - do what you think is right for yourself. If you're concerned about getting good grades, then make sure you know that you'll have no regrets coming out of any of your exams, and that you did your absolute best: that's all anyone can ask of you

Re: when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?Why the hell did you do 16 GCSEs??? lol that's insane! Most people I know did 11 (same as me) or less. I thought 9 was about average... I take it you went to either grammar or private? I just went to a comprehensive. It was quite a good one though to be fair... It was catholic so I guess that kinda acted as a chav filter to a certain extent lol(Original post by RyRy.)

Yeah I did triple science and if I remember correctly there were 4 for each science, the first 2 (half of them) were multiple choice and the last 2 weren't. What year did you do your GCSEs? -
Re: when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?I was the same... Then I left and did a BTEC which means no exams for 2 years! No good if you want to go to a top university but to be fair if you're dying at A-level then you probably aren't an oxbridge candidate anyway (sorry if that sounds harsh). I'm doing a BTEC extended diploma in forensic science and I'm hoping to go to portsmouth university this september. They want DDM which is 2 As and a C at A-level and there's no way I'd get that in science A-levels I don't think unless I started them now after doing this course. There's still a bit of stigma surrounding BTECs but I think they're ideal for students who aren't A* but who want to go to a half decent university.(Original post by RyRy.)
I'm dying at A level :'( -
Re: when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?
I did all of my revision the night before, and came out with A*'s/A's/B's. Now I'm doing my A Levels, I take the time to revise a little every day, but - for the most part - GCSEs were just ridiculously easy. I do have a good work ethic, just not when it comes to AQA C3
-
Re: when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?Similar to this, but C3 is beautifully simple!(Original post by Ra Ra Ra)

Well, I just do alright at maths I suppose, but yeah, not really revised much at AS level, and came out with 4 As, and hitting A*s this year with my game stepped up a bit.
In all honesty, if you want to get good GCSE grades, I would say Easter holidays is a good plan, but never overdo it. Pace yourself, and don't get too wound up over them, college is where you can really prove yourself.
Honestly, everyone in here who is saying "I'm starting Easter", I truly envy you. I wish I could kick myself into that '6th' gear (or warp factor 10), but that's what 13 years of breezing through education does.
Any tips guys?
