when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?
Discussion for GCSE students, including those studying for IGCSEs and O Levels.

Re: when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?Fair enough but just to put it into perspective for you... I got an A in maths gcse without really revising and that was a few years ago when they were apparently harder. I couldn't hack AS maths though. You might be different and you might well get an A* in A-level maths but it's probably a good idea to have a back up plan.(Original post by raff:))
Yep. I didn't revise for the exam and got an A, so hopefully if I revise really hard this time I'll get an A* and I'm going to do Maths at A Level. I don't think it's pointless at all because the course I want to apply for at University is extremely competitive and that particular university takes into consideration how many A/A*s you got at GCSE. -
Re: when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?
You. WILL. Regret. not revising early enough. Trust me. =S
AS Student.
If you start revising the content now, over and over again, you'll have enough time to get a large amount of exam practice done.
Time flies in Year 11. You'll wake up one day, and it'll be May. Work hard now, then you'll have peace of mind all summer! -
Re: when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?Ah I see. Tbh, I'm ****ting it for all the A Levels I'm going to do, I've been told soo many times A Levels are really hard, I'm kind of questioning whether I'll be able to handle it.(Original post by littleone271)

btw, what do you mean by having a back up plan, for what?

Re: when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?
i've started making notes for biology and geography(my worst subjects) since saturday and hope to get them done by friday.Trying to start learning the german vocab list our school's given. and i've been flicking through my classwork for other subjects and i think i'll carry on doing this until easter when i'm gonna start proper revision. I want to get all my revision done before study leave so that i can do just past papers from then on.
i'm so nervous, i haven't "found my revision method" yet and need to improve from the 7As 3Cs 1D i got in mocks to atleast 5A*s and rest As and Bs! ****ting myself! -
Re: when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?You should have revised.(Original post by LaBelleEtLeBete)
Oooh, it was a while ago so I'll have to think.
A*AAABBBBC and then two Us (they were coursework based ICT and Enterprise which I couldn't be bothered to focus on/ do any work for).
To be fair, though, I have a very good memory for things I've read and I know how to BS examiners. -
Re: when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?Why? Because of those Us? Because they didn't have exams to revise for.(Original post by bhogs001)
You should have revised. -
Re: when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?Nah. Overall.(Original post by LaBelleEtLeBete)

I have a Maths resit in March too. I just can't make myself revise for it though

Re: when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?
Start revision asap there isn't time to waste if you want top grades the sooner you revise the easier exams will be. But settling down and revising is something I still find very difficult even throughout my university career. However an easy way to start off is with a good timetable, good coffee and good music. In saying that I stumbled upon a good website that I wished did university revision but is based on GCSE subjects. Here's the website I found particularly helpful http://www.learnthrumusic.co.uk/ it basically uses music to explain everything. Like books, Algorithms and techniques I recommend at very least having a quick browse. Good luck with it!

Re: when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?Really?(Original post by RyRy.)
Agree, I didn't revise for mine came out with 1 A* in English literature, dont ask how didn't even read the book and 15 A's. At the end of the day GCSE's count for **** all, you only have to write what the examiner wants to hear and most of the science ones are multiple choice anyway
I think from your second post that most of these are "soft" short course GCSE (media studies, law, buisness studies), subjects, just to explain this to disbelieving TSR users.
I myself go to a top grammar school and 14-15 GCSEs is the max even the top top students take (in rigourous subjects.) -

I think your opinion on weather or not my subjects are soft is irrelevant.
If you really wanted to know they where.

English Lang
Geography
History

Business
R.E

Core Science
Product Design
Please enlighten me upon my soft subjects. -
Re: when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?
To be honest I'm not a very academically bright student haha. I have a few subjects predicted b, and RE predicted A which I got in the mock but maths and science I struggle with so I am happy with just a C at the very least. I revised quite a lot for maths and failed by 2 marks, so I'm resitting on 2nd march and 5th march (i think), I started revising properly for those last week and I'm going to start revision for science properly after I've got the maths exam done.

Re: when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?
Well I'm a GCSE student, and most of my friends in the year above said they started about Easter sort of time
I have Product Design Coursework (which seems to be consuming all my time
), English Coursework, Business CA and French CA all due in the next two weeks, so once those are all out of the way I was going to start organising notes and writing up a few revision cards etc. in the weeks leading up to Easter, then start revision during the Easter hols, and increase the intensity of the revision up until exam time

I have that exam, how are you planning to revise for it? I haven't started yet but it's like a week after we get back to school!
In class we have just been going over past examination papers and I have this "MathsWatch" CD and it teaches you the maths topics. How about you?

Re: when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?My teacher's being difficult and says he won't do any going over the topics for it at all(Original post by raff:))

He's given me the past papers though, but that's only 'cause i asked him. I have my own Mathswatch CD but it says algebra on the cover so I doubt it has anything relevant for this exam in it
Really worried 'bout the exam now! I need a minimum of 100 UMS points.
