Discussion for GCSE students, including those studying for IGCSEs and O Levels.

Re: when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?Oh I see. :/ Well, as long as you revise everything you can't go wrong(Original post by Ptolemy001)
My teacher's being difficult and says he won't do any going over the topics for it at all
He's given me the past papers though, but that's only 'cause i asked him. I have my own Mathswatch CD but it says algebra on the cover so I doubt it has anything relevant for this exam in it
Really worried 'bout the exam now! I need a minimum of 100 UMS points.
and yeah same here! It's in a week!
Oh how many marks is 100 UMS? I need to get at least 50 out of 60 on each paper to get an A*. Even though that sounds easy, I still am not getting high marks in the past exam papers.

Re: when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?Now,Who on TSR wouldn't aim for A*s and if you can get highrr grades,by revising, you should because most good unis expect a few A*s at GCSE plus good A-Levels-you are robbing yourself of possible oppurtunites.Revising only your weak subjects and areas is better than none at all and it will really help you in th exams to remember key content and pick up more marks.(Original post by The Phelps)
I don't really think GCSEs need revising unless you're aiming for straight As. My best advice for both GCSEs and A-Levels is read the examiners report and the mark scheme which is available on the exam boards website. It's the most productive thing you can do with your time. Just make a mental note of what gets you marks and what doesn't. -
Re: when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?100 UMS is 50 marks. Hopefully we'll both get what we want in it. I just hope there aren't any stupid questions in it like there were in the last one with the rabbits.(Original post by raff:))

Re: when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?
I did mine last year and started in the Easter holidays because I'm someone who has to keep going over things to remember them I had 18 exams in 2 weeks so for me revising the week before to fit it all in wasn't an option.
They seem hard but if you put in the work you'll surprise yourself I got a D and E in my English mock and by revising I managed to come out with A's in lit and lang so don't give up!
Good luck

Re: when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?I did my GCSE's last year and intended to start revision around mid-February, but all my time got taken up by pointless homeworks, and also on coursework. I ended up revising the week before my exam for most of them. I stressed loads, but it turned out fine! My biggest tip would be to not panic! They're not as hard as your teachers make them out to be, and once you do your A levels, they become really insignificant.

Re: when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?
I started studying in the holidays between years nine and ten, when I was fourteen. I did two hours a day in the holidays and the first term, four hours a day in the second and third, with six hours at weekends and holidays in the third. I am predicted to get a*s.

Re: when did you/ going to start revision for GCSEs?
Writing up notes for some subjects in the summer holidays, such as, geography, history and science. I'll have less to do next year. I also found from the exams in year 10 that I'd leave writing up revision notes to the last minute and not get through them all, so figured it's best to get the tedious ones out the way. Then in year 11 I'll only have to spend a few nights before looking through them.
