I did. Apart from spoof websites, and Wikipedia saying it was a PC colloquialism in USA, I couldn't find an instance of a refuse collector seriously being called a refuse engineer.
If I had a pound for every time I've told someone I'm planning on studying Mechanical Engineering and they've replied 'so you want to fix cars then?' I wouldn't need to get a degree at all.
