The things you like or dislike about your own country?
Is there something that you love or loathe about your country, your fellow countrymen or culture?
You might not be able to see eye-to-eye with such things but are perhaps forced to conform due to societal pressure.
Why not tell us where you are from and what you like or dislike about it?Last edited by fellowjoe; 12-02-2012 at 14:48. -

Re: The things you like or dislike about your own country?
I'm from Singapore.
Likes:
- wide range of food
- low consumption tax
Dislikes:
- skyrocketing transportation (especially taxi fares) and living costs
- lack of freedom of speech and expression
- censorship of media
- hot and humid weather
- country's too small for us to even be adventurous
- unfriendly, narrow-minded and conservative Singaporeans
- hectic pace of life and stressful lifestyle especially the rigid education system
- lack of platform for the arts to thrive
- overcrowding -
Re: The things you like or dislike about your own country?
I'm from Romania.
Likes:
- tradition
- language
- food
- landscapes
Dislikes:
- people
- president
- dirty streets and full of stray dogs
- medical services (we must buy all the things that doctors need if we go to the hospital - syringes, bandages, cannulas etc. and we must give tips to the doctors and to the nurses to help us, although we pay for insurances)
- education system
- winter (not only because it's too cold, but nobody cares and you can't walk on the street; all the people are falling down because of the ice)
That's why I wanna go away from here. Sometimes I feel ashamed to say that I am Romanian because we have a very bad reputation in the world

From Singapore

Likes:
+ Generally high quality of living here, with good infrastructures, education and healthcare system. We always come up tops in various rankings! (though the media may not have reported on the ones that we flopped in, heh)
+ We are an efficient country
+ There is a right balance of Asian and Western culture/influence
Dislikes:
- You have to compete to survive here. This has brought about a society fixated on accumulating financial gains while the intangible aspects of life are neglected. Inequality in the country has also widened.
- Policies can be more compassionate
- Our weather ranges from hot to sizzling hot -
