I did a turn in the road in my test, I am pretty sure I would failed if I had either the parallel park or reserve around the corner and I cannot do that to save my life. However I didn't have an emergency stop which was also good!

Nope, perhaps several years ago, but nowadays you're required to only do one manoeuvre. -
Re: Test - has anyone actually ever had to do a turn in the road on a test?
Admittedly, I passed about 2 years ago, and I got turn in the road and reverse around a corner.
When they changed the tests, it's now only one compulsory manoeuvre (1 from parallel park, bay park, turn in road and reverse around a corner) The space left by the other manoeuvre is now independent driving, where the examiner goes "follow the signs to the hospital" or some other appropriate place, and you have to read the signs and decide which way to turn for yourself. No approaching a roundabout and the examiner is telling you to turn right/left etc. Not all the test is like that though. -
Re: Test - has anyone actually ever had to do a turn in the road on a test? You have to do a 10 minute independent driving section now, instead of the second maneuver. I found that quite stressful, just because you are already nervous because it is a test and then you have to navigate too lol. My independent driving section included around 6 big roundabouts, with 5/6 exits off each - it was nerve-racking trying to keep up with it all lol.(Original post by DuncanMono)

I did turn in the road, a parallel park and an emergency stop in my test, but that was around 4 and a half years ago now. Hated both the parallel park and the reverse around the corner during my lessons, but managed to completely fluke my parallel park in my test, did it the best I had EVER done and passed first time!

I had to do a turn in the road on my first test. That's always been the maneuver I've been the most confident in doing, so I was relieved that was the one the examiner chose. Shame I mucked up the test elsewhere.

On my second test I had to do a reverse around a corner, which didn't go well. -
Re: Test - has anyone actually ever had to do a turn in the road on a test?
I had to do parallel parking in both my tests, did a good job of it both times

My second test was horrible though, far worse than my first, bizzarely. I stalled, went into the wrong lane of the roundabout on the independent driving section (managed to correct myself) and at one point stopped with half the car in a yellow box junction. When the examiner told me I'd passed I was like "WHAT??"
Thank God that's over. -

Re: Test - has anyone actually ever had to do a turn in the road on a test?I made the mistake of spending too long looking out for traffic/pedestrians and missed my point of turn into the junction. I ended up nearly crossing the white line and picked up 2 minor faults for my observation and control of the car.(Original post by Julii92)
What happened?

Yeah, I had one. I was asked to do a parallel park first, but a white-van-man screeched into the space before I could even start. So I got to do the turn instead. Which given that it was unplanned, meant doing it on a very wide, flat road.

Re: Test - has anyone actually ever had to do a turn in the road on a test?
I did technically. I parked the car with my instructor down a narrow road with cars parked on both sides and went into the test centre, only to find that when I came out with the examiner, a lorry was completely blocking the road (and stationary), so the examiner told me to do a turn in the road but that I won't be marked on it. She even encouraged me to mount the curb because the road was narrow. I'm glad it happened because it rested my nerves a a lot, especially as the examiner was some butch looking woman. She actually turned out to be a class act..
