Re: Uni for the Creative Arts-EpsomHello!(Original post by Zuza0813)
I'm only doing and Art Foundation but probably staying there to do Fashion
I'm applying to do the Art Foundation in September, too.
I live in Epsom, literally the college is a 10 minute walk from me, so I know all about the town.
Okay - yes, Epsom is very boring if you're a clubbing gal. However the local Spoons is good and friendly, and it's only a 30 minute train journey to London, plus the surrounding areas have a lot of clubs. Kingston, Sutton (known locally as Slutton for its mass of ill-dressed women) and Wimbledon are all within a 30 minute train/bus journey.
The only downside I have about Epsom is its lack of clothing stores. I always go to Kingston for shopping - the only stores Epsom has for clothes are New Look, H&M and Dorothy Perkins. There are a few own-brand clothing shops but it's all tat really.
Just hop on the bus to Kingston for much better shopping overall. ^^'
However, there's very little crime here, Rosebery park is lovely in summer and there are lots of local job oppotunities. Chessington World of Adventures is only one bus ride away and they always hire students, and you get great perks like free entry to Merlin theme parks and discounted annual passes for family/friends.
If you have any questions feel free to ask. Maybe see you next year!

No interview either, woop! :P
It's not stuck up, but put it this way - you can generally tell who goes to UCA when walking around Epsom. You'll see what I mean when you come here.
Yeah, that'd be a great idea!
My fb user is the same as my TSR user (Leighcakes) so feel free to add.

Re: Uni for the Creative Arts-EpsomSame here, I have unconditional offers for FMM course in UCA and Solent and I really can't decide which uni I should go for. Let me know when you've decided or something :P Would be great to know someone before uni if I ever chose to go in the same uni as you(Original post by mollymae)
I have an offer from UCA for the fpi course and for Southampton solent too but im stuck on which one to go for! heard that southampton solent is rubbish in comparison and also the course doesn't look as good as at UCA but its a better location and it seems to be a recurring problem that epsom as a place is rubbish! i know the actual degree is so much more important then nightlife and area but when i went for my interview i was instantly put off buy the lack of people in the town and also in the uni! there wasn't much of a vibe about epsom, and most people just go out in London all the time anyway but end up spending loads on taxi's! Do you know anyone on the fpi course and what they think? and can you offer me advice on my choice. also you said you dont live in epsom! i live in Devon and have no idea about the area and where to live etc.. how much does it cost you to commute? do many people do it? where is the best place to live?

Re: Uni for the Creative Arts-Epsom
Would anyone be interested in making a FB group for TSR UCA Epsom Students 2012?
Just so we'll all have a few people we know! We can have a nice meet-up in freshers week if its wanted.
Reeya's wonderful idea

Hmmm... I've been reading a bit about the place and everyone says that it's boring. But hey, at the end of the day I think it's up to us how boring are we going to make it ? haha
I'm going to UCA in Epsom from September

I'm going to UCA this september, got my offer and accepted it
What course you doing? -
Re: Uni for the Creative Arts-EpsomHi Lara, thanks for the useful info(Original post by LaraH)
Hey, Im in first year and I go to UCA in Epsom and studying Fashion Management and Marketing. Saw this thread and reminded me of when I was considering what uni to go to. The course itself is really good, but ALOT of work. Epsom is VERY boring, only two places to go really - Boogie Lounge (Im sure you can tell by the name that its ****) and Elements which stinks of feet.
I live in Kingston, even though its about 40 mins away on bus from Epsom, I much prefer it as there is more nightlife here. I personally wouldn't live in Epsom although its close to the campus, I chose to stay at home in 1st year (dad lives in Kingston) but Im going to live out next year with friends I've made. But I am still looking to stay in Kingston.
Halls are pretty decent, but most of the rooms are quite small. I suppose you could say that if your a 'going out' person and enjoy nightlife, epsom is not really for you. But on the other hand, it is what you make of it and house parties can make up for the lack of decent bars/clubs in the area.
Again, if i had to another chance at deciding what uni to go to, i perhaps would have chosen somewhere with more nightlife. However, with the workload that you get on the FMM course, Im not sure i would have passed any of my units if Epsom had a thriving nightlife. So i really do recommend you think about whether having clubs etc. is essential to your student experience. If it is, Epsom is not the place. Any questions about Fashion Management and Marketing, area or just anything really ask me!!!
I'm starting UCA, Epsom this September to do graphic design.
I've got one question and it's about accomodation, which hall would you say it's the best to apply to?
Thanks

Re: Uni for the Creative Arts-EpsomSame I'm still tryna work out accommodation and not leave it last minute, do you know how soon we can apply for a place?(Original post by elfell)
Epsom is my firm choice but i'm struggling with which accomodation to chose as there is a very limited amount of images on the website!! Anyone thought about which halls they're going to chose? X -

Re: Uni for the Creative Arts-Epsom
Hey I will be starting Fashion M&M at year 2 this September, transferring from doing an FdA at LCF. I am going to be staying in central London with my friends I made in halls this year from UAL, although I am worried as UCA say that students at Epsom receive the London maintenance loan, but student finance don't recognize UCA as a London university so you receive less money, it will be impossible to live in London for me on the loan student finance is saying I will receive at UCA.. so am quite worried as i 100% will not be going back to LCF this September.
Anyone else had this trouble? -
Re: Uni for the Creative Arts-EpsomHi, sorry to jump in to this a bit late but I'm starting my foundation at UCA Epsom in September too(Original post by Leighcakes)

I live in Epsom, literally the college is a 10 minute walk from me, so I know all about the town.
I'm gonna commute in on the train though, what with lack of funding for a foundation year etc... I just wanted to try and make a few friends on here as I don't think anyone I know is going to Epsom

Re: Uni for the Creative Arts-Epsom
Hey! I just put Fashion BA at UCA Epsom as my firm. I was also very worried about the nightlife aspect of the town, especially after doing foundation in Cardiff which has amazing nightlife. I've heard mixed reviews for Epsom. I have a friend in Epsom who isn't a student that has a really good time but have heard from a student point of view it's not really that great, although I've always thought the party goes where you take it? (: any advice on which halls to apply for? and anybody else doing BA Fashion in september 12? :]

i'm not doing BA fashion but i have firmed for Fashion journalism
i'm really excited but also had a lot of doubts, im from a small town with a limited night life but i always make the most of it, however it seems the night life in my town at the moment is currently better than what epsom seems to offer! its a great uni by the sounds of things though, and it seems everyone is in the same boat and worried about nightlife etc, so surely if everyone wants to go out and party we will all just have to chip in for taxis and make the most out of living so close to london! the trains to london run till about 11 i noticed, so it would only be getting back that would be an issue and we would just worry about that at the time
i just hope everyone else wants to go out and party a lot too! theres not much on halls at the moment but im thinking either the ones on campus, or the ones right next to campus are the best bet

I'm applying to do the Art Foundation in September, too.
Just hop on the bus to Kingston for much better shopping overall. ^^'
