Rangers in Administration Thread

What an absolute disaster for Scottish football. Did seem inevitable with the way things have been going recently though -
Re: Rangers in Administration Thread
The Scottish league will be dead and buried if Rangers go out of existence. I can't believe Celtic seem to think they don't need them. Their TV money would just disappear completely.
I can't see that happening however. If Darlington can survive their mess any club can. -
Re: Rangers in Administration ThreadWhat TV money? It's a pittance as it is. And the Celtic/Rangers dominance was killing the rest of the league anyway, which was plain to see.(Original post by Sephiroth)

The club is big enough to survive. I'll take Peter Lawwell's opinion over any nameless forum user any day of the week, no offence like. -

To the people in this thread trying to make Celtic fans realise this is bad for Scottish football, don't bother. I have already tried and they are too ignorant. -

Re: Rangers in Administration Thread49 million owed to the taxman, 2 million to Rapid Vienna, 1 million to Hearts, 100K to Dundee Unt, 80k to Dunfermline, no income for the next three years and no chance at winning any silverware. If you think rangers will survive you are deluded. HA HA HA!.(Original post by Jordan_1)

Re: Rangers in Administration ThreadI think it's fair to say having a large rival across the city generates a lot of passion and support for Celtic which makes the club money. Obviously they could survive, but I doubt many Celtic fans want them to disappear. And the SPL would be completely dominated by Celtic = one horse race.(Original post by Celtic_Anthony)

Re: Rangers in Administration Thread
Of course Celtic fans would love Rangers to disappear. They would win the league every season until forever. But that would just make the SPL an even bigger joke than it currently is. At least with Rangers there is competition and four entertaining big league games per season.
Celtic would rapidly go downhill if Rangers ceased to exist because people would lose interest in the SPL, attendances would fall and TV income would pretty much disappear. It would be about as relevant as the Welsh league. Sure they can try claim they don't need Rangers, but if they want to compete in Europe they need a high income and the death of the SPL wouldn't work in their favour.
As a neutral I've always been a fan of the idea of Rangers and Celtic joining the English leagues. They shouldn't get automatic Premier League status but I'm sure they could come to an arrangement where they get put in the conference. Rangers probably wouldn't be in this mess if they were in a league like the EPL. Then again with the Scottish independance issue looming it's probably not a good idea right now.Last edited by Sephiroth; 13-02-2012 at 18:40. -
Re: Rangers in Administration ThreadAdministration only gives a 10 point penalty. Gretna and Livingston only got relegated because they were SFL members and not SPL members when they entered administration. The SFL and SPL have different rules concerning this.(Original post by Foghorn Leghorn)
Why the **** aren't they getting relegated? -
Re: Rangers in Administration Thread
I expect Rangers will survive and possibly the only short-term thing might be a couple more years of Celtic winning the league. The crippling thing to Rangers being a challenge to Celtic could be if they have time without European football, as this will make it more difficult to attract players.
As to the question of Celtic, Rangers or any other Scottish club joining leagues with English and Welsh clubs, it is not going to happen as the separate identity of the national sides would be threatened. -
Re: Rangers in Administration ThreadI think that's rubbish. Welsh teams in the English leagues have never threatened it.(Original post by barnetlad)

I'm not sure I'd even oppose a UK football team. We might actually win something being able to pick from a larger pool of talent. The UK is one country afterall and we're meant to be "united". Seriously what benefit does it bring having weak Scottish/NI/Welsh teams that rarely qualify for anything? It would be like the USA having a different team for every state. Silly idea. -
Re: Rangers in Administration ThreadYou mean the only way Celtic can win the league is if Rangers are totally broke.(Original post by Shortarse1)
I think it's a shame if they do go into administration, they'll only use the 10 point penalty as an excuse for losing the league.

You really think Celtic fans would love to see the 4+ old firm fixtures gone every season? -
