Of course it is. First, you said it was only because of England, then you say there were only a handful of exciting games so which is it?
I said there were only a handful of exciting games if you discount the England games. You can't have an exciting WC with only a handful of exciting games.

Well equally, you could say something along the lines of 'the 2003 World Cup was a world cup with no good teams if you take out Australia'. I really don't think they have been going to insignificance. Where is Graeme Swann telling us that we don't need ODIs anymore? It's basically because England have generally been **** at them.
Before the world cup, most international players were queuing up to bash the ODI format. Even Tendulkar was calling for it to be dramatically revised, a point that seems to be forgotten since India won the WC....

I really don't think it's required. While I don't want to see 434 chased every game, there are few better feelings than seeing your team win a big chase. Chasing down 300 always feels better than chasing 200. Part of the reason why there were high scores in the latter part of the decade is because bowlers have generally gotten ****ter... but if you look now, SA, Pakistan, England and Australia can all say they have excellent bowling attacks.
The derth of bowling has only happened in the latter half of the 00s. In the first half and the 90s we've had the likes of Akthar, McGrath, Gillipsie, Lee, Flintoff, Caddick, Gough, Kumble, Bond, Vaas, Warne, Murali etc etc etc. There's been no shortage of good bowlers except for a period of 2-5 years ago. The reason for the higher scores have the flatter pitches and the culmination of rule changes benefiting the batsmen. I think ODIs do need to substantive change to balance the ball and bat and I think a lot of the suggestions in the blog are quite sensible.

Although they didn't bat so well in the middle order, they done amazingly well to defend the low score, well played Pakistan.

Excellent game great win for Pakistan.
Pathetic batting though from both teams except Pietersen Misbah and Malik.
Amazing bowling from all of Pak bowlers though

and fielding was okay today too.

They should play with this mentality in the next matches.

    Nothing special tbh :P

But excellent bowling and good batting by Misbah and Malik to make sure Pakistan get a defendable total.

Did you watch the match? Akmal dropped Morgan (but I can't blame him, he is NOT a WK)
Malik could have caught it (he is an excellent fielder) but let it come down
There should have been 3 run outs.

The fielding was terrible, no where near perfect at all.

Agreed though, never stop fighting. Was brilliant to watch.

Maybe it's because I didn't watch the whole match, but I really didn't see anything much from Pakistan to say 'great win'. We were dismal and had to be bailed out as usual with the bat, and 145, whilst an excellent recovery, was aided by quite a few extras from England and, actually, some average bowling/fielding at the end from then. At 73/5, it was the same story. Hafeez and Shafiq made starts and failed, we flopped MASSIVELY against Graeme Swann (if my memory is right, he took 3-14 in 4 two years ago this month on this ground, as opposed to 3-13 today). Afridi and Umar, bloody idiots, the pair of them. Getting so pissed off with Umar.

As for the bowling, well I think England chucked it away more than we bowled well tbh. Hafeez resorted to the time old tactic of just trying to run through his overs quickly and cramp the batsmen for room, but any batsman with an ounce of credibility should be able to slow play down by taking a seemingly aimless walk down the pitch or by moving around in his crease a little bit, it's not impossible. Ajmal and Afridi were decent, nothing special, merely a bit restrictive. Junaid got hammered like a bitch, out of character but then again, the teams management of the fast bowlers has been very poor this tour. Gul was the matchwinner, or matchsealer really, he bowled very well, kept things very quiet and took the wickets as well, fair play to him. It's been a while since he's done any good in this format. The fielding was rubbish as ever.

I really don't see all that to be optimistic with. We played at about 50% of full capacity and we were lucky to beat an inexperienced, rotated, and frankly, weak England side.

Bring on Dav Whatmore, we do need a specialist coach. Mohsin is just a big brother, we need a daddy to lay some ground rules and give the team some direction.

I don't think they will. Fielding has ALWAYS been a *******.
However, the young lot seem to have good hands so could be a start.
Even Misbah himself today said the ******* is at grass root level, must be sorted out.

Anyone heard of this Tauqir Zia who opened today? Appears he started off well before getting out. We could do with some alternative talent in the opening batsmen stakes.
