I mean if the person hasn't got the traditional A-level qualifications, would an access to science course give that person a good alternative?

I'm going to assume there could be a possibility.
I'm not familiar with English qualifications and how things really work. However, in Scotland I know that there is an access to medicine course at Stow College in Glasgow that is recognized by Glasgow University. So the only way to really know would be to email the admissions at any universities you're interested in to check before applying.

I think there are some in the mature students sub forum who are trying to do it.

I am actually doing an access course now, but the uni's I want to go to won't let me do medicine with it, however I can do a BMedSci Medical Sciences Degree, or a Bsc Biomedical Sciences degree then enter Medicine once that is complete as a graduate. I know it will take 1 or 2 years longer but if you cannot get straight into Medicine, then it's an alternative.

You should still try to get into Medicne first though! Save yourself a couple of years!

I've been looking in to this and the answer is yes, but not all. Cardiff accept the access to science course, Exeter base their decision on the GAMSAT if you're a mature student (or it's been two years since you left school) and I'm waiting for clarification from Bristol - but will more likely be the graduate route mentioned above for them.

I'm only looking at universities close to me, so sorry if that doesn't help much! The best thing to do is email the universities you're considering directly, and they will be able to tell you their exact requirements.

    Good luck
