I had a boardroom with a huge table between us aswell, felt like a competitor in the apprentice! There was nothin really enthusiastic about mine apart from the hello's and goodbyes. They gave me no indication on my answers ar all, just continuosly scribbled away! Looking back now it was actually pretty intense.....I reali hope u get in neards, and hopefully we'll meet in third year at magee and laugh at this conversation we had

Re: social work at queens university belfast 2012
Hi everyone!
I'm new to this, but when I saw this thread I had to create an account.
I had my interview for the two-year BA Social Work at QUB on 21st March (in the wee, small office at the top of the stairs). I think it went well, but like any interview it's hard to tell how it went, so I try not to think about that. What I am stressing about, however, is when we recieve a response. It's kinda sad, but even only a few weeks after the interview I find myself checking the post in shear anticipation on a daily basis. The reason I am so impatient is mainly because I REALLY want a place on the course, but also because my employer has requested to be informed of the decision as soon as possible as I may I have to leave/cut down on my hours come September (I currently work for the Simon Community as a Support Worker).
I've heard from some it could be a matter of weeks, but I have also heard it could be as late as a week or two before the actual course starts in some cases.
I guess another question I have is, is it an advantage to be male when applying for Social Work, considering it has traditionally been seen as a female orientated profession? And are there any other males on here who have applied?
Thanks!
Andrew -
Re: social work at queens university belfast 2012
There is a cry for more males to enter the profession, but I don't think it would be seen as an advantage as that would be sexism (wouldn't it?)
Being a support worker is going to have a massive impact on their decision as its exactly the type of practice that the interviewers would have been looking for.
Did you just apply for queens?? Its a horrible wait, but it defo wont be as late as two weeks before the course, the latest we will hear is the start of may!
I really hope everyone on this thread gets good news,

Re: social work at queens university belfast 2012
Thanks for your reply Mayerzzz,
Your probably right, though about 9 months ago I tried my luck at joining the Fire Service and their advert said something along the lines of 'females in particularly are encouraged to apply. But yeah, I agree as that type of recruitment made me feel like I would not get in before I even started. Not really fair.
I only applied for Queen's as I am happy and settled since moving to Belfast and I didn't actually realise Belfast Met also offered the course until the deadline had passed (though i'd prefer Queen's anyway).
Yeah I know, I don't care what anyone says, the wait is definately the worst bit as the decision can ultimately determine your future in terms of your career pathway...or at least delay your career for the next year if you decide to re-apply.
I have been impreesed with how quick and smooth the process has been so far from application deadline, to 2nd personal statement, to the interview stage. So fingers crossed we will all hear soon. By the way, checked my post earliar...no word today either ;p. -
Re: social work at queens university belfast 2012
Will we hear by post or will it just be a reply on the UCAS site??
How do you think you got on with the interview?? Im sure we're all finished interviews now so we're not putting people at an unfair advantage going into it like.
My questions were *im not telling youuuuuuu* lolol whoops
So there was no massive surprises with mine but they still are kina like eeeeeek.Last edited by Mayerzzz; 03-04-2012 at 13:52. -
Re: social work at queens university belfast 2012
Probably both I'd say. Either way there will be that inevitable 30 second heart racing moment when it comes to opening the letter or logging on to UCAS when the decision is made.
I don't like to think too much about interviews in hindsight as I always convince myself I was unsuccessful, but I guess it went well...hard to tell really. I just tried to apply as much of what I experience in work on a daily basis.
I think all interviews were finished by 24th March, but I could be wrong. Aparently if you did not get in, you would receive a rejection letter pretty quickly. So no news is good news etc...Last edited by andybrfc87; 03-04-2012 at 13:57. -
Re: social work at queens university belfast 2012Lol sure they gave a good enough guideline in the sheet with the invite to interview as to what direction the questions would go but still had my nerves wrecked lol(Original post by Mayerzzz)

the interviewer at QUB told me we would hear through UCAS so I keep checking my emails to see if theres any emails saying theres been a change!

Re: social work at queens university belfast 2012
I went to the extent of linking my college email (which UCAS contacts) to my blackberry. So every single day we get the college "snack menu" emailed to us and I absolutely **** a brick. I know you shouldn't wish your life away but id love to just fast forward to May and see what the verdict is either way.
Im barely out of the woods aswell, my interview was only last monday. And your right edstark the guidelines were a massive help in hindsight......this forum has actually helped me tho, but im nearly trolling it more than UCAS lol
