Why should they let you know? They gain from your lack of attention. It's your responsibility, not theirs.
At least you got a text... SFR didn't say anything to me when I went over my bill by 750€ and how I did so I'll never understand.

Just go in and talk to customer services at the O2 shop and go from there, maybe they will let you pay in instalments.
