I can't decide between the Student Village and Marketgate too.

Frenchay Campus seemed isolated from Bristol City Centre at the applicant day, but I like the thought of getting out of bed and rolling into your lectures.

    Decisions, decisions...

I'd go for neither. It is ridiculously expensive for what you get. I have friends who have lived in the Student Village and Marketgate and they all said it wasn't worth it. If you want to move into these for the social aspect, I'd go for Carroll Court as it's cheaper (though still VERY expensive). What I would really recommend though is renting privately near to campus (Filton, Horfield etc...). FAR FAR cheaper and you still get to meet new people. Trust me. Here's a link to a good site: http://www.accommodationforstudents....ype=city&cost=

My credentials: third year who lived in Carroll Court but wished I rented privately

    Hey guys!

I go to UWE and I live in the accommodation next door to Marketgate.

Marketgate is a good place with a great location in the centre, and it is quite cheap for what you get. It's close to all the shops and bars are just a little further away. With Marketgate, you get a free bus pass (I think) that you can use on the UWE buses to get you to campus. Frenchay is away from the city centre, and to get into town for a night out, you'd probably need a taxi in. Marketgate is quite a lively place too!

Any other questions, feel free to ask.

I've only been to the Student Village, and I agree I liked the rooms there.

On the applicant day on the 4th of Feb, as part of the Bristol City Centre tour, the tour guide was supposed to point Marketgate out to us so we knew where it was, but she didn't -.-

As for pictures, I can't find any either, there's pictures on the UWE Accommodation website, but they're not very good :/

Put quite bluntly- it depends who you want to live with:

If you are doing an 'arty' course marketgate is probably the right place for you. Parties more than SV, bit of a drug den but not as bad as a few others in the city supposedly.

Student village mostly has people doing courses at Frenchay, so mostly humanities and sciences.

With that it brings many of the traits of a typical person doing those subjects (as well as being slightly richer)! but obvious it is not possible to make these sweeping stereotypes but that seems to be the difference mainly.

-The difference in the actual rooms is minimal, I would say the SV kitchens are better though, it has more of a community feel.

    - If you want to live in the city, there are plenty of private halls worth looking at: Cherry Court/ Phoenix Court which have more internationals but they people tend to be studying on Frenchay.

Nightlife is better if you live in the city, much easier to do shopping, and its good for days off as well as being able to get to jobs easier!

Hmm, im not sure still! I think it will be student village i go for because me getting up early for the bus to get to the campus will not happen!! The girls who i talked to said it didnt make a difference to be going out, and if your friends are living in sv u wont be on ur own anyway marketing communications, you? x

I'm finding it so hard to make this decision! Really like the idea of the night life of marketgate and being so close to the city should be easy to get a part time job, but then I like the idea of being right next to uni with the SV. Hmmm

I'm gonna go for SV, due to the fact your lectures are right there, as is the library. I was speaking to a girl who goes UWE, she lives in Market Gate and she said it was over-priced and not that great.

I'm just gonna find a friend who lives at Market Gate, then I'll get invited to the parties

Yeah I sent my application off for accommodation yesterday. First choice Student Village
I don't fancy waiting for a bus in the winter either. I'll end up staying in bed and missing lectures.
