The GEEMA 2012 Applicants Thread!
Hello!
Well I'm definitely applying, how about you guys?
My friend went there last year and apparently it was amazing, so I'm pretty exited.
I endeavour to study medicine (surprise, surprise) and I'm applying to take the Biology and Chemistry course however, they have two other courses available too, which are the following:
English and History
Maths and Physics
"The GEEMA Summer School is for UK students from ethnic minorities attending a state school. It offers a taste of the wide variety of courses available to study at Cambridge. The summer school will include lectures, seminars, discussion groups and practical work."
You get to stay at one of the Cambridge colleges, in a single bedroom.
You'll eat meals with everyone at the cafeteria
There'll be staff and undergraduates to talk to.
There will also be plenty of socialising including taking part in things such as "theatre trips, punting on the river, tours of the city and a gala dinner."
Essential criteria for applicants for this event:
must be from a maintained sector school or college
must be from a UK Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) background
must be expected to achieve at least 3 A*s or 5 As at GCSE (or equivalent), as confirmed by a teacher.
Priority criteria
Applicant is currently living (or has previously lived) in care
Neither parent has undertaken degree level study
Applicant has parents who work in non-professional occupations
Applicant lives in an area with low-participation rates in Higher Education
Applicant attends a school with below national average GCSE A*-C (including English and Maths) attainment
Applicant attends a school with above national average students in receipt of free school meals.
