What are the chances of being released from your firm and insurance, then going into UCAS Extra?

if by releasing you mean asking them to reject the offer you have already firmed the chances are none, but i think the insured university could reject your offer if you ask them nicely, either way you would still have to deal with your firm.

Remote in the extreme, assuming your 'cooling off' period has expired. See Changing your Mind for more information.

I did this last month (Exeter as firm and Royal Holloway as insurance) I emailed them both explaining I wish to withdraw from the offer and a week later they asked for confirmation. UCAS then changed my application so both firm and insurance appear as declined.
BUT, I would suggest not doing that unless you have emailed the university that you want to apply for in Extra on whether they have any spaces left and whether they will consider your application. (I exchanged emails with the admissions tutor for my course many, many times before I finally notified Exeter and RH.)

    Thanks for your reply

How long did it take for your firm and insurance to be removed?

What did you say to your firm and insurance university, did they ask for any reasoning, were they strict?

Hmm, it was something like 2 weeks (but one of the emails got lost so it was slowed down) When I phoned them up it got sorted the next day.

I wrote something along the lines 'I regret to inform you that I wish to withdraw from blah blah blah', kind of sounds like a university rejection letter actually :mmm: They didn't ask for reasons, just that I need to confirm the withdrawal, so they weren't strict at all.

Are you thinking of doing something similar?

Sorry if this question has been asked before. But if Extra courses aren't filled do they go through to clearing? And if so, when is Extra deadline?

It is not always the case that a course which was available in Extra also turns up in Clearing, but if vacancies remain then yes, you would expect it to be. The deadline for an application through Extra is 4 July.

    Re: Extra 2012 - FAQ
Sorry, I think I've confused myself.

I applied on the 6th of June for UCAS Extra, as I realised the university I wanted to apply to initially did actually do my course.

Since then, I rang them and asked about my application, and they told me they were just seeing if they had enough applicants to run an interview day, or else it might just be a phone or Skype interview.

This was about two weeks ago now, and I'm aware the Extra deadline is approaching. There are 5 days until it closes, as then it goes into clearing.

What though, does this actually mean? Does it continue as it is? Or is the application redundant and I have to phone on results day?

The thing is, if I have to wait for results day, I'd rather phone the university before Extra closes, but if it just carries on or something, I'd rather not seem like I'm pestering- over the last few months, it'd be the fourth time I'd spoken to them. So how does clearing work in relation to Extra?

I'm pretty sure the UCAS extra deadline is the final date that UCAS will send off applications received to their chosen universities. As you've already applied through extra, and your university has received your application, you'll be fine.

    Hope this helps.

If you read the ucas page it answers all your questions.

July 4th is the last date to apply through Extra. So you can't add a new Extra choice after that.

July 19th is the last date for unis to reply.

Unis are advised to reply within 21 days of your Extra applciation (though they can take longer) and your application has only just been that long so there's no need to worry. But if you haven't heard anything soon then do remind them - I'd say probably around the 10th or so - as you don't want to be left with nothing. Or it might be worth contacting them on the 3rd or 4th so you have enough time to make another Extra application if appropriate.
