I do want a large screen at 1600px - I'm not made of money and want to spend less than £400
I want to use it as a somewhat portable desktop substitute for reading pdfs and using MS office on.
I'm uninterested in playing games / video.

    any comments and/or suggestions?

For £380 it's not bad but I think the processor is starting to look a bit dated tho.

For £400 this is a superior spec http://www.dell.com/uk/p/inspiron-15...15-intel-n5050

Google Dell inspiron 1750 17" thats what i had... windows 7 and im not sure what the rest of the jargon means on the spec tbh...

Its not very portable tbh... Plus it was hell trying to find a bag that fits.

Can we sell stuff on TSR? I've got a 17" Toshiba to get rid of. Don't think the res is that high, but the CPU is better (T6500) and it'll be a fair bit cheaper.

As a general tip, don't buy a laptop unless you sincerely need one over a computer.

You will get ripped off by a cheap price seemingly good for every spec apart from one which pretty much tears the system down. In OP's post it was the CPU and GPU.

If you're going used then eBay is your best bet.

I've found a decent spec on Amazon for just over the budget at £420.
