PRTC fitness failure - dont let it be you!!!!!
    Good Morning,
With yet another PRTC looming in front of us, I wanted to post here and warn everyone that we are seeing a massive increase in the number of fitness failures on PRTC. If you do not achieve the required standards in either the Multi Stage Fitness Test (MSFT), Press Ups or Sit Ups for your age group and gender then YOU WILL NOT CONTINUE WITH YOUR APPLICATION TO JOIN THE ROYAL AIR FORCE.

I have recently witnessed up to 30% of a course fail the fitness test in one way or another, due to the simple fact that they did not prepare themselves physically and mentally for it. The test is not hard; it demonstrates that you have a pulse! YOU NEED to make sure you can do the MSFT, if you have never done one before you can download it from the RAF Website and practice it in a field. YOU NEED to be able to do sit ups and press ups to the required standard in the correct form, again there are pictorial images on the RAF Website. e.g., sit ups; your elbows must touch the top of your knees, not to the side, not half way up the leg, but touch the top of the knee, if they don’t, they won’t count.

I am fed up with seeing people in tears after failing the fitness test and saying that they tried their hardest and did train, when they couldn't even do one press up!! People, if you want to join the Royal Air Force, you need to be fit. So prepare before you arrive, if YOU DON'T, YOU WON'T be staying on the course and YOU WON'T be joining up.

FAIL TO PREPARE, PREPARE TO FAIL!

Wait, how did these people pass their PJFT if they suck so hard at PRTC? Pureply because of bad form of their pressups/situps?

Very good question, could be a number of things
    1. thought that the PJFT was passed and sat back, ate pizza and watched Jeremy Kyle and did no more phys till PRTC.
    2. Fitness First didnt test them properly.
    3. Didnt listen to briefs given to them by PTI Staff at RTS.
    4. Arrogance....thinking they know everything and couldnt be bothered to put the effort in.
    5. Didnt prepare.....

What ever it was, they are not joining the RAF now.....so let this be a warning to all future candidates, get out and get fit.....stop wasting our time and yours.

Unfortunately i failed on the msft in January, i will soon be re-applying, I was given great advice by the PTI and the sergeant on the day and over the last 6 months i have been training and can defiantly say i have never been this fit. i know i should have been prepared before i attended in January and still kick myself for failing.

If anyone looking to join the RAF make sure your fit enough as you don’t want to be one of the ones taking off the coveralls at the end of day 1.

    Good Morning,

FAIL TO PREPARE, PREPARE TO FAIL!
Just a quick question, I go down for my PRTC on the 11th july (next week) I was going to ring my AFCO but if you can clarify this it will make it easier, if in the unfortunate event that I don't pass my English or Maths exam, do I get a resit or will that be the end of my application for the next 6 month? it's just the website and my letter seem to contradict each other a bit.
    Thanks for your time.

From what i read in the Email/Letter we have a Basic Key Skills Builder assesment (BKSB) at 14:00-17:00 on wednesday, so long as we pass the RAFFT.
That one is pass/fail, "should your results from this assessment reveal that your current working levels of literacy and numeracy are below the necessary standard, you will not be able to continue with the recruitment process and your application to join the RAF will be closed down at this point."

Then we have the maths on the thursday morning and english on friday morning. if we fail them we resit at Recruit training, and maybe turn up a week earlier for extra training for the exams if needed.
I read somewhere that you must have your functional skills qualification before graduating from RAF Halton not PRTC.

Havent seen one on the RAF website, only the functional skills ones. i imagine it cant be much harder or different than the aptitude test we took before interview.

Im going down to my AFCO tomorrow to ask some questions, if i find out anything ill post it on here.

I didnt get a great deal of information on it, but the Basic Key Skills Builder is apparently an easy test, just to assess your working level, and if you did well on the AST you'll do fine on the BKSB.

Im hoping to pass the Functional Skills at PRTC so i dont have to resit it anyway so the revision for that should be more than enough to see me through the BKSB.

I did find this short thread on E-Goat on the BKSB.
