Re: Taekwondo - getting to know you :)
I have a question about taekwondo:
Is that true that techniques of taekwondo mainly consists of kicks?
Or do you use also the hands?
Although I haven't ever train taekwondo my favourite techniques are all kinds of kicks out of the turn and jump.

Appeal to reason
WTF
Black tag (1st kup) - Hopefully taking blackbelt later this year.
Favourite bit: A few years ago I would have said sparring, but now I just like socialising and doing my patterns - Being short and inflexible is much more of a disadvantage when sparring now I'm older. Would have to say I enjoy the (just) fitness sessions we do every few weeks.Last edited by Appeal to reason; 20-02-2012 at 19:15. -
Re: Taekwondo - getting to know you :)There are plenty of hand techniques as well as foot techniques, although the kicks tend to be flashier and more obvious(Original post by Kallisto)

Having said that, I'm definitely not at 1st gup standard right now, having not done any Taekwondo whatsoever for a year and a half due to a knee injury. T_T
Started it up again last week because I'm healed and motivated!
I'm terrible at picking favourites, so let's just say sparring in general.
So er, 'Hey' all!

(...) Hopefully taking blackbelt later this year. (...)
Good luck!
By the way is your belt a brown or red one?
In my martial art the highest rank for students is the brown belt, 1st Kyu.
Is that true that the white, blue, red and black one is linked with the flag of South Korea? -

My belt is red with a black band on it. 2nd Kup has a red belt. We don't have brown belts in WTF though.
I assume you mean the seperate belts? I don't know if I'm honest. -

Recently started taekwondo about two weeks ago, and it has become a important part of my life. Luckily before I joined I was already used to kicking thanks to brawling with my brother and often using my legs.
I like how it is much harder than it looks specifically the balance aspect and accuracy, I find it incredibly hard to use my left leg and standing after kicking is also near impossible or as they say, "one does not simply regain his stance after a side kick". My favourite kick would be the side kick or the back kick, however I suck at both but the feeling of a full power side kick on a boxing bag is wonderful, you feel so powerful as that bag is swinging from side to side as if shot by a cannon.
Unlike most people I don't really care about the colour of my belt or patterns and such, I am merely there to steal all their techniques and apply them to make myself stronger, it is to build a form from which I can sculpt myself, I will probably move on after my mastery of leg techniques to a more hand based martial art then grappling etc.
My dream is to become a man strong enough to protect himself from everything.Last edited by Stratos; 21-02-2012 at 11:30. -

Grade; Green belt, looking to grade in a week. Although I haven't been practising nearly as much as I should be...
It's a lot of fun. I've done it for 2 and a half years now. By that token I should probably have done more gradings but I haven't been too fussed about the colour of my belt tbh. My favourite technique is a side kick. When you hit a pad or someone's ribs in the sweet spot it feels goooood. I also find it one of the hardest techniques though.
In addition, the technique I would love to get better at would be a tornado kick, just because it looks awesome when done well! -
Re: Taekwondo - getting to know you :)Try watching a jumping back kick, it feels amazing when you do it right(Original post by jayryan13)

, especially with side kicks, obviously rib shots are good, head shots are even better :P
